Default The next TOP brand of plasma?

I've learned a lot from these forums about HT, Audio, Blus, and not to mention displays. I'm not looking for a new display yet, but like all of us that day always comes. So that brings me to this thread.

Since Pioneer has bowed out of the plasma tv making business, which brand do you guys think will step up and be the next "Kuro" for plasma? Also, roughly how short/long of a timeframe could that be realized?

P. S. I realize there are still Pioneers available, but for the sake of argument let's say there aren't.

See, that's what I'm getting at...would a brand leap frog over another for the top spot for plasma.

So far I've only seen the samsung series 4, LG xxPG30 and 60, and the panny X1 and S1.
From the 720p sets(factory defaults) I actually like the Samsung the best, followed by the LG and then the Panny last. The Panny does have the best anti-glare filter on the screen of the 3 but the colors were way off and I could easily notice a flicker problem when the screen was all green with the white text right before movie trailers. Overall I still believe the Panasonic will rate the highest once the sets are fully calibrated but for the 98% of people that don't have this done, I have a feeling they may look at the LG's or Sammy's because of the better default settings, swivel stands, and $100-200 price difference.

For the 1080p's, since I have yet to see the series 5 sammy(is it out?), I like the LG 60 the best. Straight out of the box the colors are much more realistic, like the 720's. I haven't checked to see if I could notice the green screen flicker on the S1 yet but I have a feeling it's present.

I know I was just kidding.

But I do think Panasonic is right there on the verge of making the top one.

have to say panasonic.

The viera line is awesome. not saying that just because i have one but all of their plasma's are stunning that were only bested by the kuro.

The fact that before pioneer decided to stop making their plasmas, panasonic was going to supply their panels, well that says a lot

^^^ yeah it says they were broke! No but really pio wasn't going to take more than one step "to the side" I'll say for the sake of arrgument. Panasonic for sure, "bet"! I hope sammy steps it up also & LG too. I don't want to be stuck without being able to have a great display...

I would have to say panasonic, I do also remember reading somewhere that some of pioneers plasma workers were going to panasonic since pioneer is shutting down their plasma division.

The Panny Z series is suppossed to be a Pio SPec screen made by Panny so I am betting it will be pretty good if the wireless HD does a good job but I bet the V series next level down is what I would put my money on.

Definitely Panasonic. Their 2009 V/Z series look to be pretty impressive. Maybe not on par with a Kuro, but getting REAL close. I intend to upgrade to a 1080p 58" set later this year, assuming the price is right!

This is what I was thinking too. Apparently most of Pioneer's plasma dept. moved on to Samsung, so it would only make sense.
