I'm just posting my thoughts as things progress. Of course I don't have the relative information to conclude this is indeed what Disney are doing.

Is this limited like the Infinity Saga? I don’t want to procrastinate and miss out like I initially did with that set, but luckily a few days before it’s release I was lucky enough to get one

By "limited amazon exclusive" I'm hoping and praying that they mean it's the big-bastard book packaging which is a limited edition and is a retailer exclusive to Amazon, not that the 4K's are only going to be available for six months or whatever.

I thought the UK version was a standard sized boxset?

Its just temp artwork but I wouldn't be surprised if its a digi-stack like the 2011 Saga Blu-ray set was in the UK (believe it was a digi-book in the US)

Interesting they went for the Death Star as the cover artwork for the "Skywalker saga".

Off the top of my head I can't think of something in a single image i'd say would represent the saga but I certainly wouldn't say the Death Star.

Maybe I missed something, but if Disney owns Lucasfilm, why do some folks keep saying it's up to Lucas whether the original theatrical versions of the OT ever get released. You'd think Disney, as owner, could release whatever it wants.

Because he probably kept the rights to the originals and only the SE were sold.

Yeah, he's enough of a megalomaniac about his "true" version that I can see this being the case.

My choice would have been Luke looking at the twin sunset on Tatooine.

Yeah I was thinking that.. Either that or an updated montage of all characters from the 9 movies similar to what they had when the original six came to blu ray

Oh, I wouldn't put it past him either, even if it's just to give a middle finger to fans that have given him crap about all the changes and additions he's made. Sticking strictly to facts, though, it's not confirmed that he kept the rights to the original theatrical releases, correct? I would have thought when he sold Lucasfilm, everything went with it.

Could’ve been in the contract that the only versions Disney could ever touch would be the then newly made 4K versions of the special editions.

And if Disney goes against that they owe him a bazillion dollars or something.

The 2006 dvd's where limited till December but they still sold them for years to come.

£180 unless it includes the unaltered trilogy

I really hope there's an edition of this that will fit on a standard DVD/Blu-ray shelf, because I "want" to buy a complete Skywalker Saga 4K Blu-ray set...but I literally have no place to store a set with packaging this large, ha. I thought the packaging of the 2011 Blu-ray saga set was perfect - A hard slipcase with a nice Digibook and a small booklet, sized to fit on a standard media shelf. If they just added a few more pages to the Digibook, changed up all the artwork, and upgraded them all to 4K Blu-rays, I'd buy that in a second!

You know the hell why.

Also, it technically was featured in all three trilogies.

The Blu-rays are disasters? This is the first I'm hearing this. I always thought they looked great. But mind you, I didn't always have top of the line TVs back then either.

There is nothing about this set that warrants $28 per movie. The BD trilogies and previous saga went on sale for half-off at times and so will this.

We've all bought these movies previously. Disney is going to have to do better.

This is very similar to a Game of Thrones BD situation. Ball is in their court to do better; it's not our obligation to support every release. There will be another new set yet again in 2021, guaranteed.

Except the work that Disney and crew put in to doing these 4K restorations. Whether they're from the original camera negative or not. Any kind of work done on these releases are not cheap, so why do we feel entitled to have them at a cheap price? It really makes no sense. If you* want the format and the media to stick around then pony up the cash and put your** money where your mouth is.

*You in a general sense. Not you specifically.

Awakens and Jedi had their bonus content on a separate disc, down to 3. One imagines Skywalker will do the same, down to 2.

So that’s 2 discs of mystery Bonus content left, one of which will hopefully be Empire Of Dreams and if so, it will more then likely have it’s own disc. Down to 1.

So if this is just one giant re-package, we are looking at possibly 1 new Blu-ray Disc of extras. Unless they do a content reshuffle on the archive discs from the last set and give each film its own extras disc.

Isn’t it fun when you get asked for $250 but they won’t tell you what your money is actually paying for.
Your money is paying for 9 films on both 4K UHD and Blu-ray formats.

I know it's a pipe dream...
It ain't a pipe dream. It's a never gonna happen deal. You've got a better chance of living on the sun and surviving than you do of ever seeing the original unaltered trilogy again.

YES! Completely agree. An artist can do as he wishes with his own art. We are privy or entitled to said art in any other form than what the original creator deems us to have.

There's 50% more discs, and it costs about 150% more money. So...no. Dumb argument.

It doesn't cost 50% more. You have to look at the original pricing for these movies when they were released on Blu-ray vs. market value. I think I paid well over a $100 or more for the whole saga (at the time) back when it first came out on Blu-ray. Plus, they have since added 3 more movies and a whole new format, That's going to be significantly more expensive. Nothing is ever free.
