It could’ve been rated PG-13. I’ve seen movies that are rated PG and PG-13 that have nudity. The nudity in Halloween is pretty tame.

Whilst a woman is being strangled or stabbed? Unlikely.

Jaws and Amadeus (theatrical) both have full frontals and are PG. MPAA needs to go away.

Well, on TV they cut out the nudity but you still saw stabbings and strangling. It just feels very tame compared to other slashers/horror movies that have much more nudity, killing, and gore, so I think it’s possible it could’ve gotten a PG-13.

I’m surprised The Beastmaster was rated PG and not R (PG-13 wasn’t around yet). That movie had topless women, killings, and sacrificing children by throwing them in a pit of fire.

It's probably to do with threat or the context rather than any gore or gratuitous violence actually shown on screen. The Texas Chainsaw Massacre doesn't feature any gore on screen, it's all implied.

The violence maybe tame compared to other slasher pictures, but the sexual nature of the violence, accompanying topless nudity, and (teen) dope smoking would earn it an R today as it did back then.

Same goes for Psycho and the nonsense idea it would be a PG-13 now. Some MPAA ratings can be surprising (or flat out wrong) but it seems some here have little understanding of how the process works.

1. You don't see the shark (but point taken).

2. JAWS was originally an 'R' until Spielberg negotiated he MPAA down to a single cut for a (still ridiculous) 'PG'.

Today the film would be a hard PG-13 (minimum).

Quint's death would get it an R today. The blood, the puking blood and the "menace" of the scene. Cut that out though and the rest would probably be okay for PG-13, to my memory. The MPAA today hates blood and realistic violence/agony the most, for less than R. Which is silly because cable TV shows more, but whatever. Is what it is.

Note the genre matters a lot though. The MPAA had a hate on for trashy horror flicks for example, so even in the 80s stuff like Friday the 13th had to be edited down considerably.

Raiders of the Lost Ark is another 'R' rated film masquerading as 'PG'.

Spielberg gets away with murder.

We should have had him negotiate Brexit.

Brexit is a good thing for you Scots.

But yeah, Spielberg gets away with a lot because he practically owns the MPAA. If Schindler's List is R, then scaled properly, Showgirls should have been PG.

King Kong 1976 has a topless woman being undressed and molested by a giant ape and it's PG

The casual use of marijuana would still get it an R today.

The movie It's Complicated was ridiculously given an R rating and according to the filmmakers it was because the main characters smoked marijuana with no negative consequences. It's Complicated's rating reason also mentioned sexual content although nothing even remotely explicit was shown on screen.

So a double feature with the original film and the 2018 film is being released by Universal.

Seems pointless given that die hard fans very likely own both films already, and probably better versions of them at that.

If I were Universal I would release Halloween 2 and 3 on 4K UHD instead of the original and remake double feature.

On UHD? Universal did not do the '78 UHD so is this a new version?

Assume it's just the Lionsgate disc that's been licenced for this Universal set.

The BD release has Lionsgate on the back as well as Universal
