Default New Euro HD-E1 HD DVD player

http://hddvd.ch/detail.php?products_id=133280

I believe this player will be built on SoC. It'll be interesting to see if it performs as well as the A1. Hopefully North America will get a clone if not this very unit.

Looking forward to seeing more HD-DVD and Blu-Ray announcements from IFA

If HD-DVD really wants to continue an illusion of having a real chance in this thing, this absolutely needs to expand past the Toshiba and Microsoft show'n'tell hour.

If I don't start seeing some good, big news for HD-DVD out of shows like these...I doubt we ever will, and that'll speak for itself.

It's got be now.

I'd happily trade my big old clunker throwback to the 80's A1 for that model.

I kinda like my A1 - after all we can maybe hack it to be a linux server or something

Well perhaps the A1 is still nicer, is this new Euro version region coded?

I don't see an appreciable upgrade here by any means.

The E1 is a downgrade
The the XE-1 is an upgrade for the HDMI 1.3 alone. The 1080p output is a nice "spec" feature but I'm most exicited about the 1.3 because I won't pay any significant money for an AVR without 1.3

but I thought that 1080p output was pointless if the source was 1080p?
That 1080i output was just as good? Maybe thats why you put "spec"

Precisley Brian. Out of all the features available 1080p was the one I was worrying about the least. Any proper 1080p screen should have a capable de-interlacer that performs correctly.

The HDMI 1.3 though should be sought after because your sound improves as further advancements in AVR technology come down the pipe. The Deep color may come into play but I'm still unsure of how this may affect video playback.

HDM 1.3 in and of itself is not an appreciable upgrade for me. I'm not going to be buying a new AVR anytime soon, regardless of anything else.

I already have several contacts talking to me about HDMI 2.0 in 18-24 months or so, so that's why I keep telling people to just not worry about this crap.

I sure hope I see more out of CEDIA and the rest of IFA then what I've seen thus far for HD-DVD. This is lackluster at best.
