Or, at the very least, most if not all of the extras that have already been previously produced (Empire of Dreams, From Empire to Jedi, the other 2004 DVD-documentaries etc.).

Went ahead and preordered this. I'm not really worried about it selling out and figure they will come out with singles I could get from DMC for cheaper, but it's a nice looking set and the digital copies from it will sell well. Now just to find out if I need to keep holding in to my DVD and Bluray special features discs.
On the subject of VHS, My Dad paid 85$ for Star Wars on VHS back in the day. Even says "Not for sale" on it. He said he rented it so much the guy offered to sell him a copy. |

Yep. Most of the same people paying for streaming now are the same ones who just rented everything back in the day.

Honestly I hope they come out with a steelbook set, kind in the same vein as the Avengers set. The way this is packaged, it will not slide nicely into my shelf. Just kind of dumb to have all my 4k's lined up, spines out, then this monster just sitting by itself on a different shelf. Either way I will get it in 4K so I will pre-order this to make sure I have it if it does sell out right before release, but will immediately change/cancel the order if a steel set or smaller packaging is announced. Also why do they continue to include the blu's with 4k's, when a lot of times they are sold separately too? No need for the Blu's in this set, so kind of a waste of space...for me.

Yes, but those people who never bought physical media cannot be that high of a number. Physical media was so saturated that even my grandparents bought physical media. When you talk about physical media that includes music and everyone bought that one point or another. So I don't think that argument holds water.

I was surprised by this when it was announced, but only at the timing of it [the release date], so quick after the "Rise of Skywalker" release. I knew it was going to happen eventually, but I didn't expect it to be so soon! I'd joked that Disney was preparing a massive super mega box set that would cost insane amounts of money, but I thought we would actually have to wait a couple years for it, after the last movie was released.
The only films I'm interested in in 4K are Revenge of the Sith, Empire Strikes Back, and possibly Return of the Jedi, depending on what they do with it. The others I all have in the standard blu-ray format, and have no desire to upgrade. So I'm not going to pick up this set. But I am curious about the bonus features that will be included on this set. Whether there will be any new bonus features or not, and whether that will translate to the individual releases. I know they do it on purpose, so that you have to keep your older sets, and sometimes there are rights issues with some of those features, but it's a pain to have all the bonus material scattered across different sets and formats. "Indiana Jones" did that too for a while, until they finally coalesced everything. It's also a pipe dream of mine, but I'd also love to have a commentary for the movies, especially for "Sith", where it was a group of people talking in a room, not individual pieces stitched together to form a whole. I don't like those patchwork commentaries. They give you great insights sometimes, but it's not the same as hearing from a group of people discussing the movie at the same time, and generally having fun. The one with James Cameron and William Wisher in "Terminator 2" is a good example. The patchwork commentary with all the different interviews from multiple people on the "Ultimate Edition" is fine and okay, but it doesn't compare to just hearing the two of them sit down and talk about the movie, in the "Extreme Edition". But I know several people involved in the movies have since become deceased, and others are retired, or just don't like to do commentaries, so like I said, I know it's a pipe dream. ![]() It's like that long-awaited commentary of "Rocky II" from Sylvester Stallone, that I know we're never going to get. As far as steelbooks, it's not necessary, but I would love to get a new one for Revenge of the Sith. I really didn't like that Grievous was on the cover of that one; Sidious should have been there instead. The one for ROTJ wasn't so bad, but man, that Episode III cover... |

There's a short section around the start of Endor on the ROTJ Blu that's really soft. Can anyone confirm how this looks on the 4K stream?

As a cinephile, I look all over for good TV, but it if ain’t on BD, I’m not going to bother... I’ve bought Stranger Things on BD, Travellers etc.. While not streaming means my viewing is limited, there is is much out there to watch that at least I have some kind of filter. And I feel that is it isn’t good enough for BD, I’m not going to bother. Sadly, some people are so keen on streaming, one guys PS3 f*cked up, he no longer has a physical player and doesn’t seem interested in getting a new player (although I told him you can get decent BD players for $80-$100). So yeah, there are many millennials out there that don’t buy physical media. But I know that there are the minority that still do and since our bandwidth in Australia will be up to shit for the foreseeable future, distributors will still release on physical media here... But sadly, DVD is still king here. Bunch of savages. Will wait for The Mandolorian to come to BD and hopefully UHD. Would prefer to watch the show for the first time in better quality (both PQ and AQ) than I can get with streaming (40Mbps is average speed and 45 is the best speed I can get). I’m sure Disney is still happy to make a buck out of us Blu-Ray addicts and they’ve definitely got my $ for The Skywalker Saga. Day one for me. |

Eh... I mean yes, a massive portion of those kids never have or will. However retro stuff and "collector's editions" are popular across a wide range. I have students that collect vinyls for example, and who would absolutely want a big collector's edition of their favorite film series or whatever. I think the difference is that it will be a "special occasion" for their biggest loves, and not a "I buy every movie on disc" thing like us.
