Disney/Lucasfilm has said repeatedly they will not release the OOT. Most recently to JJ Abrams when he asked:

“I’ve been told that, for reasons that I quite don’t understand, that that’s not necessarily possible”

I know it’s called the Skywalker Saga.

But for 2-fiddy...come on.
Leia is in Rogue One too so technically it is part of the Skywalker saga. But I do get what they mean...

I mean hey, Anakin is in RO too if we want to play that game... Leia is also in Star Wars Rebels, but that's also not included.

Yeah, wrong phrase-- they probably meant something more along the lines of "stabbing in the dark."

I have no idea if all these "insider" rumors have any merit to them, but Rise of Skywalker does have that kind of studio-mandated "hack up for a shorter runtime" feel to it. I think a 3-hour director's cut would be awesome, but I'm skeptical right now, as it would be a first for Disney/Lucasfilm to come out with a different cut for any of their Star Wars films.

I don't know for sure how authentic that TROS extended cut article is (I really don't believe there's any credence behind Lobot appearing, let alone the force ghosts of the previous Jedi save for Luke and Leia), but I think an extended edition is likely. Especially since while TROS isn't doing bad in theaters, it could use an extra boost so a theatrically released extended edition would do nicely.

Even though a film can get an extended cut further down the line, either as a theatrical or Blu-Ray release, i think it would be extremely unlikely or un-heard of for them to swop out a movie while it's still playing to replace it with an extended cut.

And even though people may welcome an extended cut, it would only be welcome either on the Blu-Ray release or a cinema release a few years down the line. For them to release it now wouldn't actually please people at all, it would be more likely to make people furious, that they went to see a film, and then while it's still running, suddenly replace it with a longer version in theaters/cinemas.

They dont release movies in the cinema, and then a couple of weeks later suddenly say "oh can you stop playing that one and play this version instead". . Nah, that aint happening at all! Never has, and i doubt ever will!

The first thing I noticed about TROS was how quick it moved in the first 10-15 minutes. Definitely felt like a huge chunk of the original cut was missing from the first act. IMHO I felt a finale to a 9 movie saga should have a 3 hour film to wrap it up.

I also think it may be too good to be true (and an extended cut on disc will be a first for a SW film), and if Disney doesn’t want to upset the apple cart, I don’t think they will start with doing something different for TROS on The Skywalker Saga set.

Although, it would be a nice sweetener to the set. There was definitely more to TROS that I think would have helped the story out.
(I prefer extended cuts in most cases... I’m even in the minority with Apocalypse Now Redux, as I felt it improved the film).

Obviously. I wasn't talking about them. I'm talking about people 25 and older. Of course, a lot of people under 20 haven't bought any physical media. Including music. That's just a given and that's why I didn't include them. However, a lot of people under 20 are buying vinyl. It's such a thing that artists have now added it to their merch tables at concerts.

[Show spoiler]But sadly, they miss out on a lot of good stuff that Foxtel (Aussie cable monopoly) has, as they show exclusively HBO, Showtime, BBC and AMC. And sadly, they miss out on some great Hulu shows (eg. The Looming Tower), as they ignore physical media releases.

As a cinephile, I look all over for good TV, but it if ain’t on BD, I’m not going to bother... I’ve bought Stranger Things on BD, Travellers etc.. While not streaming means my viewing is limited, there is is much out there to watch that at least I have some kind of filter. And I feel that is it isn’t good enough for BD, I’m not going to bother.

Sadly, some people are so keen on streaming, one guys PS3 f*cked up, he no longer has a physical player and doesn’t seem interested in getting a new player (although I told him you can get decent BD players for $80-$100).

So yeah, there are many millennials out there that don’t buy physical media. But I know that there are the minority that still do and since our bandwidth in Australia will be up to shit for the foreseeable future, distributors will still release on physical media here... But sadly, DVD is still king here. Bunch of savages.

Will wait for The Mandolorian to come to BD and hopefully UHD. Would prefer to watch the show for the first time in better quality (both PQ and AQ) than I can get with streaming (40Mbps is average speed and 45 is the best speed I can get). I’m sure Disney is still happy to make a buck out of us Blu-Ray addicts and they’ve definitely got my $ for The Skywalker Saga. Day one for me.
Yes, but they have one point or another bought physical media. There are a number of 20 smoethings that were alive when physical media was all you head. Most of the people I was referring to were born in the early to mid 90s. I'm not talking about millennials who were born in the late '90s/early 00's.

They actually just did that for Cats, so it has happened before. I'll agree with you though that even if they do it (which I highly doubt they will, it would make more sense to be on video if it happens at all) it will be a re release like Avatar was.

I have to wonder how much that cost them to do. They are going to lose a barrel of money.

I had to just go and read up about Cats, because i was unaware of that. What a strange state of affairs that that happened. Altho it does seem to be that it's just special effects that have been changed and that the run time hasn't changed. So any reasons people have for not liking the film will still be there id assume.

Still bizarre that situation happened though, letting the film get released with uncompleted effects. I dunno if it's genuine or not , but i suppose it is, but iv just seen the picture of Judi Dench in a scene where you can see her actual hand, when you're not supposed to, it's supposed to be a paw...... Bizarre!

Either way I will get it in 4K so I will pre-order this to make sure I have it if it does sell out right before release, but will immediately change/cancel the order if a steel set or smaller packaging is announced. Also why do they continue to include the blu's with 4k's, when a lot of times they are sold separately too? No need for the Blu's in this set, so kind of a waste of space...for me.
I'm with you on this. I'd like UHD BD movies to feature only one UHD BD disc and lower prices. I recently got the Australian release of Doctor Strange for 17.50 Euros includding shipping to Spain and it only has the 4K disc, and it only took 12 days for the parcel to get to Spain.
If all Australian UHD BD releases only have the UHD BD disc and prices are on the same range of what I paid for the Doctor Strange UHD BD I see myself buying more UHD BD movies from JB HiFi Australia.

Once Upon a Time in Hollywood got an encore theatrical run here in Australia with ten minutes of added footage.

There have been many instances where this type of thing has happened.

The Canadian site "Your Entertainment Source" has just listed the Star Wars titles as individual 4K releases. All except The Last Jedi. I suppose because it already has a 4K release. No release date listed yet, but probably together with Episode IX.

If true that means The Last Jedi isn’t getting the slightly “sweetened” Disney+ HDR grade.

So bizarre that it'd be different. My default position is of course that I don't believe what people are saying and that it's purely settings related - but if it were true then how ****ed up is it that Disnee are getting reamed by people for putting "fake HDR" on the D+ service but the one movie that's already SDR in an HDR container (ENTIRELY deliberately) actually got tweaked for betterer HDR?
