The most sensible order I find is just to watch in disc order with one exception.
The obvious follow up to Breakaway is Earthbound. It's the only other episode to feature Simmonds and if you've seen Breakaway you'd know it was nonsense to think he would have stayed out of the way for any episodes let alone the number between Breakaway and the usual places Earthbound is placed.
Secondly the episode opens with Simmonds attending a Command conference where he states his surprise at no talk of trying to return to Earth.
Now played as the second episode it would be quite logical for Simmonds to still be hoping for a return to earth , after all little time has passed since Breakaway. But played in any other order Alpha has gone through a Black Sun, passed through space warps, time warps and all manner of phenomena so talk of returning to Earth after all that would be unrealistic to say the least.
But in all the decades since the show was on and repeated and I've been collecting it I found only one time when a tv station chose to play Earthbound as episode 2 and that was on Australian tv in the 90's. I don't know if they always did.
But certainly from a narrative point of view Earthbounds only sensible spot is episode 2.

Look out for the 2 errors in the final scenes with Simmonds. Christopher Lees wig falls off as he lays down in his chamber and as Simmonds goes berserk one of the supposedly dormant crew members can clearly be seen behind him turning round to look at him.
War games always came after Break away in the 1970's where i lived.

What is it with Network removing extras for complete sets? They pulled the same trick with Captain Scarlet.

How Network treats extras is decidedly odd.

I am not a fan of keeping the extras for limited releases, if it's because they don't think buyers of complete sets are hardcore fans that's a poor excuse.

At least with Space 1999 you pays your money and takes your choice i.e. a cheaper complete set with limited extras or Series 1 and 2 separately with all the extras available.

This popped up on my Facebook page yesterday (posted 3rd January):

I'm skint at the moment so I may have to get the 'complete' set at the end of the month.

Act fast!

I'm assuming that's the separate seasons and complete releases? Might have to stump up £22 to get the 2nd series if so.

Couldn't find the full text on the Facebook page...

But, I've been hanging back for a while now... even watched a few episodes of Season 2 on Forces TV - some are as bad (and as fun!) as I remembered As with most people, Season 1 (already have) is my favourite.

So your post has prompted me to jump - LOL I was holding out to see if Amazon was going to do something in the £15 range, but, what the hell - it's not a bad price on Network ATM, so more 70's TV to torture my other half with!

LOL

I went with Network, now let's see how long it takes to arrive (up to 28 days). I'd normally think that was an overestimation, but a Professionals box set I ordered ended up talking a month and a half (as they kept saying it was sent - and then not sending).. but it arrived eventually

Non Space 1999 but they also mentioned last week that HD21 has also been discontinued.

I was surprised to see Catherine Schell in the new BBC Dracula series. I thought she'd retired from acting a long time ago.

I'd be all over that but I wouldn't hold my breath. Look how long it took to get year 2 on blu-ray.

Year 1 is definitely an old master now and I bet there's lots of room for improvement with a brand-new 4k scan, but I doubt it would happen any time soon, if ever. Thankfully what we have looks pretty amazing, especially considering the age of the year 1 masters.

They're still nice scans, it's more Jonathan Wood and his usage of noise reduction that narks me off, and not just on 1999.

Mine shipped yesterday too - I wonder how many extra orders (beyond the norm) they've received due to Ste7en's post

My copy arrived today. It was sent via Royal mail 24 - so I'd assume it's spent a few days getting through Network's dispatch system before actually hitting the road 'for real' - LOL.

Copy came with a slipcase (inside a cellophane seal). My copy of Series One didn't have a slip - arghh - the OCD!!!

My copy is a bit 'loose', sounds like there's stuff sliding inside - well, it actually sounds like it's all sliding inside, LOL. I'll investigate tomorrow
