I just watched Queen Kong after many years of curiosity. I love a bit of Robin Asquith, and it has most of the crumpet from 70s UK sex films, but it really was utter dreck.

Morbid curiosity led me to this quickly-knocked-out riff on the '76 King Kong. Litigation stopped it being released at the time, but Queen Kong escaped after the millennium.

Let's hope it lumbers back to the island of Lasanga, Where They Do The Conga...

It's VERY bad. Basically, it starts with King Kong getting a heart transplant with a big industrial crane, and then he meets a woman Kong with saggy boobs, and it ends like Spartacus. The score is OK, and you get a .5 second shot of Linda Hamilton's boob. If you really love giant monster movies I'm sure you'd get a kick out of it, but it's quite terrible. It's about on par with King Kong Escapes, but without the psychotic animated show nature of the plot and visuals that one has.

I'm hoping we get releases of both in the US when the next Kong movie comes out. If we don't, I'll finally import either this or the French disc of the 76 movie. It sounds like the master used for them is VERY dated so that's part of why I've been waiting to see if we get a new release with this Skull Island movie.

Someone uploaded this one to Youtube and I tried watching it, but it was terrible. Turned it off after 15 minutes. Ugh.

They probably used the same master than the HD-DVD released in 2006, I own it and it's okay for a B movie released in the 70s. I believe the French release is region B so stay away if you don't have or plan to buy a region free player. I don't think the release of Skull Island will make a domestic Blu-ray happen but I can be wrong.

The Aussie release is the only one with AVC encoding AFAIK. Yes they are all off the same master but there is a clear advantage to going with the newer encoding of the Australian release over the ancient VC-1 presentation that's on the European releases (which are basically direct ports of the HD-DVD). However it is "B" locked so yes you need a region-free machine.

They would be idiots not to. I mean, the 76 KING KONG was a big hit, and IMO it would sell infinitely more copies than the likes of KING KONG ESCAPES, which we've got on Blu-Ray already. I guess it depends on Paramount and who they decide to handle their catalog titles going forward.

I'm just surprised they didn't get to it already. Somehow they decided to release the original THE GREAT GATSBY -- a notorious flop -- on Blu and not KING KONG, which despite mixed reviews, was a big success at the box-office if nothing else. Makes no sense when they've had multiple chances (the Jackson film, the Godzilla film, Pacific Rim, etc.) to release it "in connection" with something.

Lol, never heard of King Kong Escapes but just by looking at the cover I can say for sure I'll never own this one. The 1976 version of King Kong is very bad but it's so bad that it's good and it'll always be one of my guilty pleasure. It have a great cast too, Jessica Lange and Jeff Bridges, what can go wrong with Lange at her hottest and the dude.

Yeah the compression is most certainly better on the VC-1 encode.

New release of this movie just came out 12 days ago in germany. Mpeg4 AVC encode and DTS MA2.0 doesnt look like any extras but maybe a new scan. I just ordered it and should get it in about a week. Will keep you posted. Region B locked though. Thank god for region free players

What's the deal with the audio sync issue I've heard of? I can find posts where people talk about it being present on the French disc, and most of the other releases (Japan, first Australian, etc.) are the exact same disc, so wouldn't those have the audio sync issue as well? Do the 2nd Australian release from Umbrella and the 2017 German release fix that issue?

I saw the DVD release the other day in JB for $6.98 but would rather the Blu-ray version and with the special features.
