Yeah, I think they are viewed right now as "quickie hard copies for people with poor internet" by the studios. With that mindset I think it's doomed to fail.

Point being, if $250 for the box set is too much for you there's always Disney+ and I'm sure MoviesAnywhere will offer a 4K version as well. This idea that "poor people" is a new concept is f**king insulting. Back when the trilogy came out at $250 I was the assistant manager of a movie theater and that box-set was about a week's worth of pay. You know what I did? I figured out a way to save up and pay for it. I went to my LaserDisc store where I had it preordered and payed $20-30 a week until I had it paid for before street date. I didn't make a lot of money, but it was something I really wanted and that was my option.

You know what I DIDN'T do? I didn't whine and grouse like a baby because I felt like I was owed a cheaper price. I didn't have a $1000 iPhone I couldn't afford. I didn't live in an apartment I couldn't afford. I didn't drive a car I couldn't afford. I didn't overextend myself and then blame Fox Video for making something difficult for me. I worked, just like all of you do and I had to make financial choices, just like all of you do. I just wasn't a professional victim.

If you don't want to pay $250 for the upcoming box-set... you don't have to. You have options to access this same material, which is something us LaserDisc people really didn't have.
That was a fantastic story there, Cliff.

I'm going to go ahead and pretend that you didn't quote me there though.

We were grateful because we were collectors... not consumers. We saw the title first and then looked at the price-tag. It's a shame most of the people on these boards will never know the excitement of walking into their LaserDisc store, seeing a new Image Preview magazine on the counter and then hurriedly blowing through it to see what titles were on the horizon. They think we're dumb for having spent so much, but anyone who was there knows it was the best of times. Collecting movies was a joy, not a financial obligation.
Back when "you were collectors"...

I am sorry that you don't find joy in your media collection these days and are preoccupied with recapturing some sort of lost nostalgia from overly expensive purchases in the days of yore. You don't speak for the rest of us though. I just checked the prices on my Star Wars DVD trilogy so that I could sell it. Guess what? Nvm, you already know the story...

It's too bad that you appear to be struggling with adapting to the times though. Most of us are enjoying ourselves immensely, viewing all sorts of movies in the highest quality that was previously unimaginable only 15 years ago, while signing the praises of the modern day home video economy. It's a great time to be alive~

In the case of this set, I think it they really ended up charging $250, it would be worth the cost to me if it felt like a truly definitive collection. Top of the line UHD transfers for each film making them look as good as possible, a comprehensive collection of bonus material, and really good packaging.

What I expect is the same masters used for Disney+ on discs. Which isn't a terrible thing for the OT, but kind of crappy for Episodes I and II. Extras, if we're lucky, will include all the legacy content from previous editions, or maybe only a handful if we're not. To me that wouldn't really be a $250 value, and that's without me even factoring in things like not including legacy versions of the various films.

1-3 will *NEVER* look any better. I don't know what you're expecting but it's impossible.

You mean 2 and 3; Episode I was shot on film, so the live action (what relatively little there is) can easily be upgraded in quality.

I'm more curious to see if 1-6 will actually receive new, *real* HDR/DV color grades or if they're just going to keep using the fake ones...

There is one single shot without VFX in TPM.

So, yeah, it's 1-3. There's no way to viably get everything together for TPM.

I actually thought III looked pretty good on D+, so I'm expecting it to look even better on disc.

Surely you did not just compare SW and FF. I mean, I like FF and all, but there is just no comparison at all there.

Nobody is forcing anybody to get this set so if you dont like the price dont buy it... wait to see if it goes on sale... get the singles on sale.... get the singles in DMC 60% off... I can think of numerous ways to get the movies for cheaper if you dont want to pay for the set.

Those who dont mind paying for it, let them enjoy it. I mean geeze, you would think this was an Aniplex thread.

But - the existing D+ transfers are not "top of the line" from what we know. So, its not a definitive collection IMO unless each of the 9 films are painstakingly redone and look their absolute best with minimal/no DNR and other shenanigans. The jury is out until reviews and more information comes in. Thats fine if you decide to just buy it blindly but not everyone will until we ow what were actually getting.

How do you know this? If Disney wasnt cheap and lazy they could do better but it requires effort which they dont seem to keen on regarding their 4K releases. Maybe they'll surprise us. I hope so.

My thoughts exactly, if you’re so inclined DMC with the 60% you can get all the singles including Rogue One plus the remaining Pixar and both Beauty And The Beast films for $275 no tax and free shipping.

Ps if you were to sell your codes you get back $170 for the 17 titles so you’re cost is $105.

Final cost $6.17 each tile.

That video is actually "fake" in the sense it's been debunked. These are real HDR.

There was joy in walking into Suncoast Movies and checking out the laserdisc/DVD racks for sure. However there was also annoyance when you had to do it and didn't want to, and there was also inflated prices compared to ordering via catalog or online. There's also joy in getting things ASAP without the hassles of traffic or searching, and for those with less quality/ownership concerns there is joy in having literally the history of movies at your fingertips at all times.

Only constant is change, and usually that change is a mix of good and bad, but you can never stop it either way.

It's 1080p.
That's in the master.
Even whatever DNR has been applied won't matter.

Yeah, I find the new colors much better. After checking some of the scenes in the prequels on Disney Plus, I got rid of my Blu-ray versions. I find them obsolete now.
