I want some more moments like this.

Something the Jurassic World films have no interest in unfortunately. Its all about the running......and the screaming.

Wasn't there a scene like that in jurassic world and jurassic world fallen kingdom though? Sick or dying dinosaurs being tenderly cared for. I definitely remember seeing those scenes lol.

Yep.

In Jurassic World. Pratt and Howard's characters encounter a brachiosaurus-type dino that has been mauled by the indominus rex (sp?).

Heh, that was on my mind when I wrote that post, but I'd say the baby Stegosaurus and Tyrannosaurus in the second film up the cuteness factor. The raptor hatchling looks a bit "meaner" and is all covered in goo.

Those scenes did not evoke much emotional response in their own right even when not compared to the original. The scene with the dying Apatosaurus looks like CG even though its not.

Its unfair to compare these movies to the original I guess but when Trevorrow has seemingly gone so far out of his way to make these films dumb as dishwater its hard not to yearn for what could have been.

I really enjoyed Jurassic World, but Fallen Kingdom was one of the worst movies I have ever seen. Its going to take a miracle to get me excited about this upcoming movie.

The triceratops scene wasn't exactly a crying moment. The characters are too busy talking for the moment to really linger. The dead carcasses left by the Indominus Rex gives the shot of the dead long enough to linger to leave some sort of emotional impact. The fact that later in Fallen Kingdom its one of original brachiosaurs left to die on the island in Fallen Kingdom makes it in itself the sort of cruel emotion manipulating moment that brings me to tears. Even before about I knew about the scene in greater context to the franchise I had to walk out of the theater, knowing it afterward, jesus, its even more devastating watching that creature be left behind to die. Its more heart wrenching than anything in the original which was a mostly fun romp of an adventure film.

So I disagree the new films lack the emotion of the original. The original film was itself Speilberg dressing up Crichton's novel for kids, turning John Hammond from the sociopath he was in the book into friggin Walt Disney, Dennis Nedry from a wronged man into a cackling villain, sparing us Ian Malcolm's death because kids don't wanna see that. I grew up on Jurassic Park but its not exactly Schindler's List or Saving Private Ryan. The latter films go to darker places much like the latter Harry Potters, but that doesn't mean you are incapable of feeling anything as substantial. They are flawed but not without feeling.

I will say this, the type of emotions evoked by the original film are different that its sequels. The closest JW comes is when the kids first see the view of the park from their hotel room. Maybe it was Speilberg wanting to make JP more like his early films but his lingering moments are more hopeful ones. Grant and Ellen seeing the brachiosaurs for the first time, Grant with the kids in the trees, the flight off the island. After Speilberg left, fewer of those lingering moments were trying to mirror that emotion and the films became more straight suspense.

I have to agree with this. I can't tell what's animatronic in these new films because everything looks CG and I can't figure out why.

Disagree the Apatosaurus in JW looks Animatronic but for all the wrong reasons. The movement is very robotic and stiff which is something that often happens when a Animatronic is badly made or shot or both. Some of the close-ups of the Animatronic Spinosaurus attacking the plane in JP3 look pretty bad too.

Thumbs down

I really like JW, but Fallen Kingdom is the worst movie in the franchise. And based on the direction it was going in, I have no great anticipation for the next one. So a couple dozen dinosaurs escaped into the wild. Not all breeding pairs. In terrain they're not familiar with, and a climate they're not adapted to. The military should be able to clean this up right quick, but we're supposed to believe it's leading into a Godzilla movie. Right.
