You think they're buying Garlic and Gunpowder though? They're probably only keeping eyes out for well known titles.

There are some customers I've seen that can't physically bend down to look at the movies when they are on the bottom shelf.

But I agree most people don't care about movies they never heard of. I usually try to look up a movie I've never heard of while I'm at the store, but I don't think most people want to waste the time doing that. And another thing I thought about is that there's just way too many freaking movies out in the world. Maybe people don't care because it's information overload. I think there's just too many choices to get through, whether it's deciding what to watch on Netflix, Hulu, Amazon or what to buy at Dollar Tree.

People not knowing the movies are $1 is something I never thought of, but makes sense. I mean if a 4K shows up I can see that being especially true.
The regular cat won't be looking up titles. It's always the front cover they look at. Only a small amount of times have I seen some people read the back cover if the movie interests them.

I used to look up reviews for movies, but now I just read the back cover. I'll take a chance, and if the movie sucks or doesn't interest me I'll just donate it. It's basically a rental.

BTW, today's DT watch...

-The Rite: C+ (I was very tired watching this, though, which didn't help).

My recent finds over the last few weeks.
  • Song to Song is my first and only 4k find so far
  • Trash had a digital code, but it didn't work. (redeems on iTunes only; but it can be linked to Movies Anywhere and Vudu after redemption)
  • The Incredible Burt Wonderstone had a good digital code.
  • OJ: Made in America is a 3DVD/2Blu-ray documentary set with a small booklet. I always find it kind of odd to get a blu-ray in a DVD case. I have a Who Framed Roger Rabbit movie like this as well.
  • Alien Outpost has a reversible cover insert
  • The Delta Force DVD is full screen. I didn't look at it carefully enough.

-digital/streaming is the way for a lot of people.

-some people still don’t think the movies are a buck. I’ve had and heard people question the price on them.

Some spots I go to always sell out most of the blus when I check back a few days later. Of course a lot of stores still have a grip of DVDs, which is why I hope DT isn’t releasing stuff monthly. These stores aren’t built for stocking movies monthly; they just pile up.
There are also some people that never realize or would even think Dollar Tree sells DVD and Blu-ray movies in the first place. Even a cashier once indicated she didn't know they sold them when I was checking out. Some people just never go down that aisle if they are only there for other things they need like food items. When I first started to shop at Dollar Tree I used to only go for party and gift items like balloons, gift bags, and greeting cards. Now, when I have the time, I like to cruise every aisle just to see what they have.

Went into a local DT this weekend that I've been in countless times since the Black Friday sale. They appeared to have a box of fresh "old stock" in the electronics section, as I found these titles on Blu that I've never, ever seen in this store (or anywhere in this region, actually)...

Upstream Color
The Power of Few
Red vs. Blue Season 10
Yoga Hosers (with slipcover)
All Star Superman (with slipcover)

Nothing new, I know. Just strange to find so many titles new to this region all at once.

Was All Star Superman a bluray?

Serious buzzkill of a question: Is Coronavirus making anyone think twice about doing these DT runs in the future? Small spaces, congested with people, stores aren't always the most sanitary, etc.

As someone susceptible to sinus infections and has gotten one several days after each of the last three DT runs... no, it's not going to stop me.

When I am out shopping and I hear someone cough, I go the other direction. It is like playing pacman in real life.

I'm screwed either way

My immune system is on melt down and I take serious meds to try to kill it (immune system) off - I think we all see the problem, here.

I'm not so much worried about DT and people in public, until the 'Day-Z' quarantine hits (cuz in the Midwest, zero percentage of people ever do as instructed). I'm concerned about my neighbors proven stupidity and the likely-hood that they will give me the plague, either right before or after I'm robbed, looted, and maimed by them.

Not really. I find it that there are worse places than DT to stay away from.

I finally opened the Amazing Spider-Man 2 that I bought in January. Inside was an extremely scuffed DVD & a working code, but no Blu-Ray. I knew I was making a mistake when I bought it, but I thought it was just because the movie sucked.

Today's dire DT viewings...

-Burning Palms: F

Wow...this hits Movie 43-levels of bad-taste awfulness. Want a real knee-slapper? How about the third segment, where a pair of mincing gay stereotypes "adopt" a 7-year-old black girl (whom they name "Mahogany"), grow exasperated as her inability to speak and how she impales a possum at a birthday party with a spear(!), then drive her out into the woods to abandon her with a backpack stuffed with power bars, with the capper that they replace her with a dog? And the other segments are only slightly less offensive. Hard to believe this was the first feature from writer/director Christopher Landon, who went on to make the genuinely entertaining Happy Death Day movies, because if I were a studio exec who saw this, I would have NEVER cut him a check to make another movie.

-Devil's Due: D

More found footage crapola.

It may be out of context, but the way you are describing Burning Palms (never heard of this one) sounds absolutely like a comedy. Is it played off this way?

I like Burning Palms. I saw it on Amazon Prime last year based off of a recommendation. Then bought the Blu-ray from Hamilton Book a few weeks ago for $2.95. The tagline is "5 Stories That Will Mess You Up For Life". So it's meant to be offensive, non PC, and outlandish. I like the anthology style of it. I would think that most people would find at least one or two stories out of the five that they find amusing. The cast is really good too. I definitely don't think it's for everyone though.
