I've had a Pioneer Elite Kuro PRO-151FD since around 2009-10 and it's been great. I think one of the reasons as to why I haven't had any problems with it is I've had it hooked up to a SurgeX surge protector which are industrial grade and there are no mov's in them to fail.
I wonder how many plasma's or flatscreen's in general suffer electrical problems due to not having a surge protector or being hooked up to a faulty surge protector that uses mov's like the one's sold at Best Buy, Staples, Walmart? http://espsurgex.com/surgex/ |

Is there any value in a dead panel?
I have a pro-101fd that died about 4 years ago that I have hung on to. I thought that one day I might have tried to bring it back to life but at this point, it's not really worth it to me as a secondary TV. I am clearing out some things from the home and this is one of the things that may end up on the front lawn to be taken out with the trash. If I can get $100+ for it though I could put that towards a new tv. It's got the red blinking light of death. 2-blinks repeated when I power it on. Any thoughts regarding this would be appreciated. Thanks |

I thought it was going to die last year, as the PQ seemed off (weak black levels), but after doing a factory reset, it was all well again. An absolutely amazing piece of equipment. I think I will buy an LG C9 65inch this year though, as I simply want a bigger screen. Last edited by Bluyoda; 02-01-2020 at 08:27 PM. |

I feel really emotional about letting go of my Kuro as my main TV.
This will also be the first time I will have more than 1 TV. I have just purchased the above mentioned LG 65C97LA, as the price has finally come down enough to jump on it for me. I will test the OLED first, especially with regulard BDs, as I fear they will look worse on it than on my Kuro. I can still remember the first time I hooked my SE Oppo BDP-83 up, and calibrated the picture settings. Watching Iron Man and Strat Trek ('09) on BD for the first time were awe-inspiring experiences. I can't believe the Kuro is still works. It's such an impeccably made display. Made in Japan after all. Are any displays made there these days? Anyways, looking forward to comparing the two. |

Sharp TVs are made in Japan and will likely be in the USA for the 2021 model year.
Yes, your 300x300 Visa wall mount will work on the C9. The only issue is that the C9 bolt pattern is positioned very low and the Kuro's bolt pattern is near the middle of the display. So you will likely need to move the wall mount lower on the wall. |

Hope it fits, but I won't mount it up immediately anyway, as I first want to see how bad the motion resolution is to my eyes, and whether I will return it and keep using the Kuro until the day it dies. |

Caveat: if a blu-ray has bad compression, noise or other imperfections: yes, on a screen this size that will look worse than on a 50". Which in my mind is as it should. And the reason I just upgraded form the Criterion Mulholland Drive blu-ray to the better authored recent european Studio Canal version. Will the Kuro ever leave the house? No way! Hi I am wondering how you found your comparison? We packed up our Pro-151FD back in 2011 when we moved to a new house thinking I would setup a home theater in our basement but never got around to it and our year old Kuro has been in its box since! I just brought into the house and put it in our play room so I could play PS4 and Xbox One X games on it and man did I miss the picture quality of this panel. I am only sitting 10 feet away and it it so clear.
I looked into getting a 55" LG C9 or E9 4K OLED panel because the 60" Kuro is just to big to be used in our main house but felt nothing we currently watch is 4K so have decided to just keep our current Samsung 3D high end LED TV for now. I am tempted to build the home theater room in our basement again but most of our family viewing is done in our living room now. It is sadly missing all the home theater audio I enjoyed some much but my wife is not into that part of it. It looks like the best thing to do is to keep the Kuro until more of our material is 4K but I don't see that happening in the very near future. |

Still have my Kuro Elite 151FD & still looks as great as the day I bought it. Now has 60,000 hours on it too. Would love to go 4K some day, but not right now, I’m watching mostly Cable TV & Sports in 720p & 1080i, which look great with great motion from 11ft away. So not ready to spend the money to upgrade to a 4K OLED. Would like at least a 77” upgrade next. I did buy a Panasonic 820 Ultra BluRay Player & this does a Fabulous job of Downscaling 4K BluRays to 1080p. Hard to imagine looking any better.

I understand and you have a World Class beautiful TV, but once you get your next emissive 4K HDR display you will see and appreciate the very nice image performance upgrade.

With my Kuro, I had to sit about 5 away before I really noticed the pixels of the TV, but with the LG, it's more like 1foot, if not less. The resolution is incredible, as are the black levels. Literally 100% black, and the brightness. I, for one, am certainly glad I upgraded. It's so much better IMO, although I still think the Kuro is amazing, but it just can't compete with a generation 9 OLED. |
