I'll do my best lol!
I can give you the Tony Curtis 60s possibilities at least: The Great Imposter (1961) The Outsider (1961) 40 Pounds of Trouble (1962) Captain Newman, M.D. (1963) Wild and Wonderful (1964) Of these, I think the 1961 titles are unlikely as things stand, because there's only 1 1961 title and I suspect it will be The Last Sunset. Of the others, there is 1 1962 title (the other being Freud: The Secret Passion), 1 1963 title (I think this will indeed be Captain Newman, M.D.) and 1 1964 title in the deal. |

Very happy with Bluebeard’s Eighth Wife, The Song Of Songs, and The Flame Of New Orleans, all of which I received this morning. The Bluebeard disc has authoring issues (milky black/grey pillarbox) but after a few minutes they did not distract me. I’ve been waiting long enough for this and the other titles to appear on R1 Blu-ray, I can overlook.

So glad to have Barn Door here and everyone else who contribute some normalcy and help us look forward to better days.
I abandoned Twitter last year when it got so stridently political day in and day out, I had enough. Then when even some of my innocuous movie groups on Facebook started being invaded by extremist political trolls and racists, I got disgusted and abandoned that site too after 15 years. As such, I’m depending on this site for Blu updates and, to quote Blanche, “the kindness of strangers.” So in the KLI’s understandable, but still disappointing absence, I hope we can continue to stay on top of release news and other relevant label discussions and debates. |

Watched the documentary Be Natural: The Untold Story of Alice Guy Blache on TCM last night. They played a slew of shorts after. Looking forward to picking up the Kino set when all this craziness blows over.

My number one Tony Curtis want from the 60's is the largely forgotten WILD AND WONDERFUL (1964), which has never been released on home video to my knowledge. It stars Tony, his beautiful wife Christine Kauffman, and a whole bunch of French poodles.
I don't think I've seen it since the 60's, so who knows if it's as much fun as I recall? I'd enjoy revisiting it. |

If it is 1960, that would make sense, since they have a 1960 title and the two possibilities I'd narrowed it down to weren't exactly obvious candidates. The Great Imposter would be however.

Sure. The KLI Insider pulls a few discs from a stash in his desk drawer, gets a stamp from a roll, licks it, sticks it on an envelope and drops the packages in the local mailbox on his way home. That's how I always imagined it working

The KLI Insider also chooses all the titles they release, licenses them from the various rights holders, restores a lot of the films frame by frame, moderates and records all the commentaries, writes and implements all the closed captions, translates foreign language films into English subtitles, prints up the artwork, some of which he’s designed and painted himself, manufactures each plastic case and then puts them in his desk drawer with envelopes and stamps as per your summary. While waiting for orders to come pouring in, he spends his down time with all the nice people on forums like this one.

I watched FUZZ from 1972, which was not technically a blind buy as I had seen it first run when I was 13, but I didn’t remember much about it. Having watched the great 1960’s US television series 87th PRECINCT on DVD, it was nice to revisit with Ed McBain’s cop world again in FUZZ, but I can’t say the film added up to much in the end. There are some great scenes, some very funny moments and a nice sort of cosmos to the denouement, but on the whole it just didn’t gel for me.
One thing that maybe our resident behind the scenes film historian Aclea can elaborate on is why Burt Reynolds, despite being credited first, ultimately ended up with what amounted to be a supporting part and how Raquel Welch was relegated to practically doing nothing. She disappears for much of the film and her last scene comes out of nowhere, seemingly tacked on just to remind us she was in the movie. I’ve read that her and Reynolds did not get along, stemming from an incident of Burt saying something offensive while they both filmed 100 RIFLES years earlier. Supposedly she told everyone she would not even make eye contact with Reynolds should they have any scenes together in FUZZ, which they really don’t anyway. I remember from the time how incensed she was by the FUZZ ad campaign which portrayed her as being scantily clad in the movie. The ads also replicated Burt’s centerfold which had absolutely nothing to do with the movie, of course, but was the talk of the town back then. Anyway, hey Aclea, got any further dirt to dish on this one? |
