NEVER STEAL ANYTHING SMALL with my all time favorite actor in his last musical. I saw it once decades ago on late night commercial TV when I was 14 and have been dying to see it again for years. And now in scope too just to sweeten the deal.

Even during a worldwide crisis, KINO continues to soldier on in style.

Here's an alternative breakdown of the possible 50s Universal titles, to give a more accurate representation of what's to come:

[Show spoiler]
No Name on the Bullet plus 2 of:

Sierra
Kansas Raiders
The Cimarron Kid
The Duel at Silver Creek
Ride Clear of Diablo
Drums Across the River
Walk the Proud Land
Ride a Crooked Trail

7 of:

Comanche Territory
Horizons West
The Lawless Breed
The Redhead from Wyoming
The Mississippi Gambler
Seminole
War Arrow
Saskatchewan
Dawn at Socorro
Backlash
Pillars of the Sky
Gun for a Coward
Quantez

2 of:

Red Ball Express
Battle Hymn

1 or 2 of:

The Unguarded Moment
The Restless Years

6 or 7 of:

Buccaneer's Girl (1950)
The Desert Hawk (1950)
Francis (1950)
Against All Flags (1952)
Has Anybody Seen My Gal (1952)
No Room for the Groom (1952)
Scarlet Angel (1952)
Son of Ali Baba (1952)
Yankee Buccaneer (1952)
The World in His Arms (1952)
All I Desire (1953)
Back to God's Country (1953)
The Golden Blade (1953)
Bengal Brigade (1954)
The Black Shield of Falworth (1954)
Artists and Models (1955)
Captain Lightfoot (1955)
Lady Godiva of Coventry (1955)
One Desire (1955)
The Private War of Major Benson (1955)
The Benny Goodman Story (1956)
The Conqueror (1956)
Never Say Goodbye (1956)
There's Always Tomorrow (1956)
Jet Pilot (1957)
My Man Godfrey (1957)
The Perfect Furlough (1958)

Given there are 2 50s WWII films in the deal, I believe they can only be Red Ball Express and Battle Hymn, so we appear to be getting both of those.

We also know there is more Stanwyck and some Sirk in the deal, so one or both of All I Desire and There's Always Tomorrow seem certain. I also suspect we'll get at least one of the two John Wayne titles (I wouldn't be surprised if The Conqueror missed out though).

This would be great. I'm hoping for both but probably give the edge to There's Always Tomorrow.

Based on clues, European Blu-ray releases and popularity of films/cast, if I had to guess at what's coming from the 50s, I'd go for something like this (you can tell it's self-isolation season right?):

[Show spoiler]
1950

Either Kansas Raiders or Sierra, probably the former

1952

Against All Flags
The Cimarron Kid
Horizons West
Red Ball Express
The World in His Arms
Either Has Anybody Seen My Gal or Son of Ali Baba (probably the latter, since they may well do a Tony Curtis 50s set, given I think they might have 3 of his films)

1953 - All I Desire plus 3 of:

The Lawless Breed
The Mississippi Gambler
Redhead from Wyoming
Seminole
War Arrow

1954

The Black Shield of Falworth
Saskatchewan

1955

Captain Lightfoot
One Desire

1956

Backlash
There's Always Tomorrow

1957

Battle Hymn
Jet Pilot
Quantez

1958

The Perfect Furlough
The Restless Years

I think this would just about tick the boxes in terms of what we know, though I'm probably very wrong.

I hope it doesn't. After SONG OF NORWAY and THE OSCAR, Kino is doing a great job of satisfying us so-bad-it's good movie fans. My Universal DVD of THE CONQUEROR isn't even anamorphic widescreen.

In regard to BarnDoor's always entertaining speculation on possible Kino releases, I'm glad to see that 1952's "Has Anybody Seen My Gal" is still a possibility. It's a good-natured period comedy with much to recommend it, in setting and mood something like Jeanne Crain's big hit "Margie". Not really a musical, but with a nice selection of 20's tunes bubbling through it. Piper Laurie and Rock Hudson are top-billed but the real star is Charles Coburn in one of his most ingratiating turns. As in the wonderful "The Devil and Miss Jones", Coburn, though billed third, is really the film's focal character. As a matter of fact, it largely follows the "Devil and Miss Jones" template, with Coburn as a prickly tycoon hiding his identity and renting a room from an average family. If you're a Charles Coburn fan and haven't seen it, a major treat awaits. 40's favorite Lynn Bari's also makes a lovely impression as Piper's mom. And an additional point of interest comes via an early blink-and-you'll miss-him appearance by a pre-fame James Dean, uncharacteristically cheery as a soda fountain counterman. In short, "Has Anybody Seen My Gal" would make an excellent addition to Kino's Blu-Ray catalogue. Maybe its best shot would be as part of a Rock Hudson set.

I was hoping to see Love Me Tonight among the June titles. There’s always July.

KL could do a Tony Curtis/Blake Edwards double bill:

Mr Cory (1957)
The Perfect Furlough (1958)

Both belong to Universal, both shot in Cinemascope.

I've never seen "the Choirboys," but I know that Joseph Waumbaugh (author of the book) wasn't happy with it. Still, I know it has a following. I think my dad loved it.

I don’t know if the original book is supposed to be a comedy but the movie is, maybe that’s why he didn’t like it? I think it’s a fun film with a great ensemble cast though it’s been a long time since I’ve seen it, the only thing that I can sort of remember is James Woods trying to get a prostitute to say “sucky f*cky five bucks” so he can arrest her, am I thinking of the right film?
