Nah, I get the feeling they're all gonna have similar issues.

Also, Best Buy employees just don't get it. They always give me a hard time. To them, packaging is meaningless. And if the discs play, what's the problem?

I haven't watched the Disney+ versions, just flicked through them but it no longer seemed to be an issue.
The CGI in episode 1 is crummy by modern standards, you can tell they didn't bother with raytracing. Everything about them took me out of the film. They even neglected to do higher quality antialiasing on some of the overhead building shots.

Hey, it beats the days of either watch the DVD set or go f$&* yourself and watch your old deteriorating VHS tapes like some kind animal

Besides, I reject those options-- Project 4K all the way for the original trilogy! The new UHD transfers of the prequels and Maclunkey Editions I'm fine just watching on Disney+ when the mood strikes (I watched Episode I a while back, and am actually planning on watching the rest in machete order soon).

IMO, 4K77 and 83. With that said however, the 4K77 project is built on the honor system. That means that you should own the officially released UHD blu ray of ANH to watch it. The only reason Disney turns a blind eye to it and doesn’t shut it down (because trust me they could, and they definitely are aware of 4K77) is because they know that the people watching 4K77 have purchased the highest quality release of ANH.

Are there screen cap comparisons yet?

Do the lightsabers in the OT look better than prior home releases? I.e. Vader's saber look red in ESB as opposed to pink like the DVDs?

Would the fan editions end up modifying them again, though? Aren't the presentstions composited from multiple sources?, or is just the Despecialized versions?

Ok so 4K77 may be somewhat inconsistent but so is the UHD and at least 4K77 is always filmic in it's inconsistency, where as the UHD ranges from smudgy to REALLY smudgy.

4K83 also crushes the UHD, hands down.

If you mean the legacy DD 5.1 embed (which is a separately encoded track so isn't part of the DTHD core + extension system, it's just hidden from the user) then I'm not surprised, I've got several Sony discs that use the old 5.1 mix for the DD embed rather than a downmix of the Atmos/7.1. Though even the DD embed on Blade Runner is a downmix of the new mix which pisses me off

After opening it up, I still prefer this set over the individual editions. However, there are some irritating quality control issues.

My outer box is a mess. There are tiny scratches all over it and they are very visible since the box is black and the scratches are silvery. Like everyone else, I ended up with a dark glue "stain." But I also noticed a slightly lighter "stain" where the j-card was, and an even lighter "stain" where the curbside sticker was.

Once I opened the box, I tried to pull the book out using the ribbon. However, as soon as I tugged on the ribbon, it just started unraveling. The tip of the ribbon now has almost an inch of frayed ends!

I haven't even gotten to the discs yet, but I'm pretty sure I'm going to see plenty of scratches. I just hope I don't have any duplicate discs.

I guess I'm gonna have to learn to live with its flaws, though. The set is too expensive to buy again and then give this one away as a gift. And exchanging it would be a nightmare. To Best Buy employees, the box is just packaging (like the cardboard box your TV comes in). Who cares what condition it's in? And scratches on a disc? That's OK too. They'll still play.
I removed the glue stain with a soft cloth and alcohol then a dry cloth...it leaves a little smear then another soft cloth with spring water and a dry cloth after, this removes finger prints as well. Also go to a local cloth/material store or craft store that has a sewing section and show them the black ribbon, buy a new strip of ribbon and have them fix the ends by either sewing or fire. Then glue new ribbon in place

I would like to take a look at the 4k77 but I don’t have the hardware. As much as I’m a die hard fan of the OT I’ll have to make due with the UHD’s. I was expecting a lot of processing since it’s Disney. I can’t help but wonder how these would have turned out if FOX was releasing them. I’m trying to be optimistic but I dunno. The thing I love about HDR/WCG is it can make up or at least push an over processed transfer into something watchable. DNR was much worse with standard BD because it was that much further from the theatrical look due to its inability to show proper colors because of rec709. From that perspective I never liked the BD’s for the OT. They just looked odd thanks to Lowry.

Maybe I’m off the mark here since I haven’t watched them yet but I was afraid they would take the Marvel strategy of altering their older films to match the look of their newer entries.

What’s frustrating about this is every film SHOULD look different. Manipulating them to look alike bothers me.

They are sitting on my shelf teasing me but I want to wait until my new amp arrives Monday to enjoy them.

Heck of it is though Ross these OT 4K transfers were done by Lowry 8 years ago, literally, and - as much as I have my own suspicions that Disnee have laid some extra DNR over the top, the HDR mastering is deffo all theirs - I think that most if not all of the issues that people are seeing are related to the underlying remastering (which we know for a fact on Phantom Menace as it already looked like this 9 years ago!) and are thus baked in. So even if Fox were the ones releasing these existing 4K transfers on behalf of LFL I'm not sure that they would've looked a whole heck of a lot different...short of carrying out brand new 4K restorations but then that wouldn't have been Fox's call anyway.
