I wonder if The Last Jedi, Solo, and Rise of Skywalker will be reissued in packaging in 4K to match the other films.

The grain management is really noticeable in those screenshots but the image is still more refined than the previous transfers.

Is it possible that Disney applied extra processing during the encoding stage?

They seem to have a thing for DNR at the moment on their UHD's.

There is talk in the other threads (or maybe it was this one) that Solo and Last Jedi would, but I don't know where anyone is getting that from.

Still, i think the effects of the jpeg compression are negligible:
JPEG vs. PNG:

Lossless is better, but it does not change the fact that these look 'atrocious' regarding the PQ.
There's a big difference here to my eyes: https://slow.pics/c/SM2Q8BCG

Just look around the lightsaber blades.

To each their own, sure, but you spent $250 on it! If it was just for the discs, personally I wouldn't bother as the films are already on Disney+

The re-sale value (if I sell it eventually) is in the limited edition packaging.

I'm not bothering, especially after seeing those caps. The old Blu-ray set will suffice (and the individual releases for the newer ones) until they do them properly. It's a lot of money for a cheap HDR pass on the old masters.

No slips from Australia. I'm not gonna buy the Pixar films as they're all on Disney+ in 4K. Why bother with Star Wars then? Good question, I keep asking myself that. Although, they will hold their value so it's fine.

They won't do them properly, odds are this is it for physical media.

Well Solo and The Last Jedi have already been re-issued in other countries with matching artwork so makes sense the US will follow eventually.

Just out of curiosity; does anyone else remember how TPM, ESB and RoTJ looked back in the day?

I’m not at all condoning the use of DNR, but I also don’t think it’s any coincidence that, for whatever reason, these were always quite grainy transfers. I particularly remember getting the very first copy of RoTJ on VHS and thinking how ugly it looked compared to ANH and somewhat ESB, and I don’t suppose it helped with TPM that most of the film was optically printed to 2K film transfers of the CGI.

I don’t know... It just makes me wonder why those movies in particular were so grainy and soft. Were 5 and 6 using a different film stock?

Which is speculation. Whatever I had seen posted made it sound like someone "knew" these reissues were happening. It would have made sense for any re-issue to occur at the same time as the "new" 4K releases.

Is anyone having trouble with the Sequel Trilogy discs and an Oppo? TFA had some blocking/breakup but last night we tried to watch TLJ and it broke up for a minute and couldn't play any chapter from about 57:00 onward. I had to fall back on the previous release to finish.

If it's just my set, any idea who I can contact for support/replacement?

I wonder if we'll get separate reviews of the remastered Blu-ray discs at some point? I still have the 2011 BD/DVD combo packs, based off the older Lowry masters. I would be game on upgrading A New Hope and Empire if the Blu-rays are, in fact, based on the newer 4K masters and are considered a worthy upgrade.

Well there is the posts from Digital Bits saying Disney informed him the re-issues would not be out with the others but would follow at a later date.

Indeed. Exactly. Remember last year when Cap America 4K released in February then you got a batch of Iron Mans in August. Similar situation. Now granted Marvel was gaming the release window for a Endgame, but this will follow suit. If anyone needs a release date and preorder link for confirmation will be waiting a bit.

Agreed. Unfortunately, some movies are seemingly destined forever to have poor or even mediocre releases. Thinking T2 (even though different studio) right now although there are others.

I bet if Disney didn't buy Lucasfilms, they would already be released in 2017 with the same 4K masters meant for the 3D versions.

I have a question:For the people that are buying this or the individual 4K movies-are you keeping the Star Wars:The Complete Saga BR box set that came out in 2011 for all of the extras? Just curious. Thanks.

After opening it up, I still prefer this set over the individual editions. However, there are some irritating quality control issues.

My outer box is a mess. There are tiny scratches all over it and they are very visible since the box is black and the scratches are silvery. Like everyone else, I ended up with a dark glue "stain." But I also noticed a slightly lighter "stain" where the j-card was, and an even lighter "stain" where the curbside sticker was.

Once I opened the box, I tried to pull the book out using the ribbon. However, as soon as I tugged on the ribbon, it just started unraveling. The tip of the ribbon now has almost an inch of frayed ends!

I haven't even gotten to the discs yet, but I'm pretty sure I'm going to see plenty of scratches. I just hope I don't have any duplicate discs.

I guess I'm gonna have to learn to live with its flaws, though. The set is too expensive to buy again and then give this one away as a gift. And exchanging it would be a nightmare. To Best Buy employees, the box is just packaging (like the cardboard box your TV comes in). Who cares what condition it's in? And scratches on a disc? That's OK too. They'll still play.
Sorry to hear that.

One of the reasons I passed is not having the ability to buy this in store and thoroughly inspect the outer box before buying.

How many of you received a copy with an outer box in mint condition or close to mint?

Anyone have scratches on any of the discs?
