I do have to turn up the audio a bit on my soundbar compared to the 2011 BDs, but they still sound pretty good. Will watch Empire and Jedi a little later.
I don't think its DNR necessarily. I believe its just the added VFX of the special edition. 'Empire' suffers the least from this issue because there was the least amount of changes.

LMAO. Not sure if that was a typo or autocorrect. Ugh, so embarrassing.

It's DNR, and Empire suffers the most from it.

The Special Edition changes do look dreadful though.

DNR and dated VFX are far from the same thing.

Yes, 1.4 was a BIG improvement to be sure. I feel good about it being the definitive version of the original film.

No, especially for HDR which we can't see from screenshots.

But given the high RRP, double dipping on existing 4K discs and knowledge they're the same masters as the BDs with a basic new HDR pass, what little we can tell from screencaps is more than enough for me in this case.

Maybe if it gets discounted, or repackaged in another way, I'll change my mind and want it.

Then again, the individuals contain stacked discs.

I think I may just pass or wait until steelbooks are available. My luck I'll get them, half will be scratched, then it will be 3 weeks before a store lets me return them!

The UHD looks absolutely nothing, Nothing, like those caps. I have no idea how that poster is capturing the image but it is nothing representative of how this disc actually looks.
Which clearly illustrates my point. I thought people would have learnt by now, but I guess not. I also saw nothing as bad as those caps.

Welp...I did it.

I pulled the trigger, after saying for two weeks there was no chance I would.

This is unquestionably the most inexplicably stupid impulse buy I’ve ever made in my life. $250 for a 4K set with mixed PQ reviews and serious packaging/disc storage issues...made for ISPU smack dab in the middle of a raging global pandemic that’s getting worse day after day...slowly devouring the social structures upon which our civilization is built upon.

...and I don’t even own a 4K tv/player.

This is the direct result of being stuck in my bedroom, binge-watching Netflix for ten straight days.

There maybe no coming back from this.

What's the deal with bonus features? Same as previous releases or new stuff. Thinking mostly about the 27 disc edition.

There are a couple new featurettes. Most of the stuff from the Blu-Rays is here (I think it's missing some of the still galleries or something - Digital Bits did a rundown of everything). The prequels have the DVD documentaries THE BEGINNING and IN A MINUTE (yay!), but the OT is missing that EMPIRE OF DREAMS doc from the original DVD set. It's on YouTube though. I think there's one other doc missing. So bit of a mixed bag - you lose a couple items from the Blus, but gain a couple docs from the DVDs. Depends on how big a completist you are.

I'm selling off my old Blu-Ray COMPLETE SAGA and the sequel Blus. Keeping my old 4K of TLJ for the Dolby Vision transfer.

Theres actually nothing new that hasnt been released before. The "new features" you talk of are from the 2015 digital release, but they are new on disc at least.

If you want all the extras, you need to keep the bonus discs from the saga set, not everything was ported over. Also, even though they did bring over the best stuff from the prequel DVDs, there is still a lot of stuff left off from those as well.

The raised blacks have also been fixed in later versions of 4K77. 1.0 on top, 1.4 bottom:

I dont get why all the shadow detail is green on 4k77. i did a quick color correction based on the comments of black detail and managed this in 2mins i dont know why the film is baked in green so much.

Ah - thanks. I never bought the 2015 digital versions so I didn't know those came from that.

A few days ago someone posted a screen shot from Empire that showed a closeup of the “debris” that falls out of the bottom of cloud city with Luke that clearly shows it’s not his hand. I can’t seem to find it now. Can someone repost?

Thank you

To my understanding, the first 4K77 was just a raw scan...no correction done at all. That is why 1.4 is so much better.
