He went on to compare it to Disney restorations like Snow White, which lose the cinematic look and then "look like postcards."

As far as his thoughts on the transfers, he admitted that he just spot-checked them when people were confused how he didn't notice the DNR and frozen-grain, so I'd take his PQ assessment with a grain of salt until he takes a closer look at them.
Even when he walks right up to his massive projection screen and has a look I'd still take it with a pinch of salt.

Didn't notice any stuttering in my extensive "scene checking" of EMPIRE and RETURN OF THE JEDI, though. (My A NEW HOPE discs will never get played... I only watch 4K77 v1.4 for that). Are there any specific scenes where you're seeing it; is it occasional or throughout? Is it repeatable or does it "fix" itself when you skip back and play again?
It's occasional, mostly on scenes where there is a pan or intense action, it seems to miss a frame or two. I'll double check my cables and settings, and have the latest firmware on the player and TV. I have a Samsung KS8000 55' and an old Yamaha RX-830 with only the audio going through the HDMI with Monoprice cables.

The well is deep, and despite gossip that this is the last physical release of the films, I can see Disney going back to that well many times. A bit like Mickey in the Sorcerer's Apprentice in FANTASIA.

The 4k looks miles better in terms of sharpness, but again it's darker and the colours look pretty drab to me.

I'd be interested to see comparisons between the old and new BDs.

The UK box of the Saga is releasing in about a week. I have it on pre-order, but I just wanted to know what the experiences are with the discs...do they have a lot of scratches, or am I better off with the individual releases? The thing about the individual releases...I know those are stacked, so easy to get scratched too. And the slips don't really match (especially Last Jedi and Last Skywalker). Solo and Rogue One will be steelbooks for me (the 4k disc of Rogue One will go in the steelbook - it's the only one I've ordered the individual release of), so it will look nice to have the big Skywalker set with 2 steelbooks for Solo/Rogue One. But I don't want to spend so much if the discs are all scratched in the big box set.

Heh, was that a shot of Vader from Rogue One that they snuck in there? Tricksy little hobbitses, that’s not in this box set.

Good video, though.

Any news on when we will get an individual release in the UK? Already have Solo and TLJ on 4K with TROS soon to follow, so don’t want to re-buy any of the 4K discs.

I think the only thing you'd be missing is the music-only version of The Last Jedi on the blu ray. That will be on a future stand alone release though.

I'm in the same position. I don't know but I imagine it will be after the big set sells out. The Daniel Craig Bond films were out for a while, in a set, and then they were released individually. It was the same thing with the Marvel films, Iron Man, CA and Thor were released in box-sets first, same thing with the Mummy trilogy. At the very least we should get Rogue One as it's never had a UK release.

I just hope they keep the poster art on every new release, so they match.

It's likely true though. I can't see Disney re-doing them, why would they? They've chosen to do them in HDR10 instead of DV / HDR10+ and there is no sign of 8K streaming or 8K physical media. No movie studio / streaming service has signed up for 8K. TV broadcasts are still stuck in 1080p. 8K at home is overkill. This is the last hurrah for physical media at home and I'm fine with that. Anything more than 4K is overkill and I don't wanna buy them all over again. VHS to DVD to Blu Ray to UHD is enough!

No, they're not at all, what they're gonna do is re-release the same transfer in steelbook form and then re-release them in trilogy sets. They're not gonna re-do the transfers, ever IMO or release the unaltered original trilogy. This is it. This is the last hurrah.

Already, we're not getting releases in the UK, that the rest of the world is getting, see Pixar. Disney don't think they're gonna sell enough to be worth the hassle.

I do think we'll get standalones at some point, but maybe as limited edition steelbooks as/when they do the same in America, maybe for Q4 this year? Damned shame we're not getting Rogue One alongside the Skywalker boxset though, I can understand holding back the standalones of 1-9 but excluding Rogue makes no sense.

Didn't Disney+ just launch in the UK? That's probably why they're gypping you guys on these disc releases.

Disney+ launched in most European countries in March and yet most of them are getting individual releases of the films including Rogue One so I doubt that has anything to do with it, it’s just yet another example of Disney UK Home Entertainment being clueless but shouldn’t come as any surprise after how they have dealt with the last few MCU catalogue releases.
