To each his own. I would definately reccomend this for a rental first. I've seen the recent transfer in HD on the PS3 network (albeit in 720p) the source looks better than the DVD, but the DVD was already really good considering how early the disc was released in 1997. It was one of the first dual-layer DVD's if not the first To hit the market! This is one of my top 20 films, and I'm stoked it's coming. Since it's a warner catalog release, I would expect it to use the original poster art, just like the DVD, VHS & Laserdisc before it. Should be great!!!!

Ha, I was just thinking about this movie the other day and wondering when it would get a BD release. Good to see it's sooner, rather than later.

Contact is absolutely one of my favorite films of all time. There have been times when I have considered it my MOST favorite film of all time, and I still watch the DVD with regularity. A BD announcement is great news! Jodie Foster is amazing in it, and the movie leaves the viewers to come to their own conclusions on the "science vs. religion" debate.

Wonderfully well done, superbly performed and originally written by the late Carl Sagan. A must-have for all sci-fi fans. I hope it's an excellent transfer. This movie most definitely deserves the finest treatment.

I know what you mean. Check out the cover art for Groundhog Day.

Contact is a must-have for my blu-ray collection. I will bet that the sound of the alien signal will make most subwoofers explode on "Contact!" I like everything about this film except for one small portion (the actual contact sequence). Jodie Foster provided an excellent performance.

It's astounding to me how many people just don't -get- this movie.

This is definitely one of my all time top 10 movies.

First day - easy - I even hope I have a new TV/sound system in time for it.

I've also never understood the need to come into a thread about a particular movie coming to blu-ray and crap in it with useless negative posts.

+100 (when I see a thread like this one and I don't like the movie I usually
just don't post)

CONTACT is a great movie, an overlooked classic in my opinion
but I would definately say that it won't be everyone's cup of tea...

And also a good way to remember Carl Sagan.

I agree. Too many cool things happened up until then for me to be satisfied with the ending.
