It could have been scanned in 4K but restored in 2K. Sometimes theaters will pit the wrong specs for films (e.g. Come and See).

Some people speculate Warner is holding onto it for their own release.

Get a license agreement from Criterion and money from the 4K release later on.

I would say impossible, but then we did get The Last Temptation of Christ issued from Mediumrare in November 2015 and Criterion in April 2019. Bruce Lee: The Master Collection was November 2016 so there’s always the possibility it will expire, depending upon the length of the licensing period.

Game of Death Redux, a new presentation of Lee’s original Game of Death footage, produced by Alan Canvan
more info:

Quote:
On the eve of the 46th anniversary of Bruce Lee's passing, Alan Canvan will premiere a new edit of Lee's Game of Death (Running Time 39:05), a posthumously released unfinished film. Visualized by Canvan, the new cut reframes Lee's famous project by combining John Barry's riveting film score with Lee's extended raw footage to reveal the hidden symbolism and themes within the narrative of Game of Death. The result is a powerful and resonant story that explores classical mythology and Jungian psychology, honoring the artistry of both Bruce Lee and John Barry. After the screening, Canvan will be joined by author Matthew Polly (Bruce Lee: A Life) for a discussion on Game of Death, followed by Q&A with the audience.

Also, you can't be serious about Criterion not blowing the Shout and Mediumrare versions out of the water.
Many of Shout’s new extras are only around 30 minutes for each film (sure there’s more on the bonus DVD) so definitely room for improvement. But the Hong Kong Legends extras are lengthy as usual so yeah it may be difficult to top the ones on the Mediumrare.

It doesn’t look like many of the Enter the Dragon extras are held over so reason enough to hold onto the WB release.

Am I missing where anyone has said if the English dubs for the non-EtD movies are going to be included or not?

Does Criterion charge credits cards at checkout or when the order ships? Couldn't find anything on their site.

Yep. Interesting that it's done already. As I said earlier here, my bet is that Warners is holding onto it to release on 4K disc for the 50th Anniversary (2023).

...Of course it could be 8K by that time!

...And of course three years in self-isolation time for us will feel like six years!

From the list of special features:

Quote:
Alternate audio soundtracks for the films, including original English-dubbed tracks and a 5.1 surround soundtrack for the special-edition version of Enter the Dragon

It was indeed a great joy simply to see this released at the time.

Re: Enter the Dragon extras: If you read Criterion's wording closely, it's clear that there will be more than what's listed right now, my bet is they include most of what was on the previous Warners discs.

I hope they have access to better Mandarin mono tracks for Fist and Way - the ones on the various Fortune Star releases are very muffled. The English track for GOD was the same, as supplied by Fortune Star, but fortunatly Shout was able to use track from the old 1999 Fox DVD as an alternative.
Well, thanks to you I just remembered that the Shout Selects BD had the JP cut in HD and the alt mono from the 1999 Fox DVD. Granted compression wasn't very good add the fact that cut was transferred from a 35mm print, and it would need some cleanup work and such to match the 4k master.

I grabbed up the 4 Shout Selects Bruce Lees before they went OOP two years ago, in prediction that we may not get newer editions loaded to the max AND had the Ritrovata piss corrected ever again, depending how strict Fortune Star were. FS are known for being strict with any visual alterations or color corrections on their 4k restorations, but are more lenient with their 2k transfers for some reason (probably stipulations imposed by Ritrovata, which explains why most restorations with work done by them look how they are).

There was a rumor when Shout announced their BL selects, their 10 year licence (signed in 2007 or 2008) with Fortune Star was about to expire and Shout were planning to renew so they could put them out. When Shout did their color correction on the Bruce Lees, Fortune Star didn't allow visual alterations on any of their 4k transfers and used it as a reason not to renew their licence with Shout, which explains why all their FS titles went OOP.

Looks like Criterion negotiated and/or FS's policies are changing and they'll be using the same color corrected masters. Naturally, Criterion probably won't be using the stacked coolio extras and all those alt openings from the Shout! BL releases, and I don't expect them to also include the Hong Kong version of GOD cut that was on the Selects BD, since it appears to have been reconstructed by them for that release using materials Fortune Star had for that version. I'd hold on to those too and the Warner BDs for Enter as the later issue and the 2013 remastered BD omits a A Warriors Journey due Warner's rights expiring for that doc.

Back to the selects, when I was gathering up the BL Selects Blus from Amazon in my cart I also saw an Amazon Warehouse listing for the HK Kam and Ronson Blu of Enter the Dragon real cheap, so I got that in the order then too. The HK Blu of Enter is, aside the GH logo and Cantonese opening credits plus some extra shots here and there, basically the same cut as the longer US SE version. No Cantonese and Mandarian mono, but instead shittily mixed 7.1 tracks where the Cantonese dub (not original language obviously, but stems to GH's 1974 version) is very muffled and the Mandarin and Thai mixes have modern clear dialog and SFX but super muffled music.

Yeah, it happens. Soavi's Stagefright's DCP kept getting listed as 4K, but it is really the same master as BU's Blu-ray.

Hmm I bought them but they weren't super pricey at least. Now to figure out whether to sell them for the CC set or wait for reviews...
