This thread is stupid, it's a place for Troll's to make an attempt at making all this bigger than it really is. I can't even believe it's allowed to stay open.
I'd expect a thread like this at AVS...not here.

Troll haven here...I think the Mod's should delete this.

If you *really* don't care who wins...

I suppose you'd love the quality (or really the lack thereof) of a POTC series forced onto on HD DVD disk each with all the extras (like is on the current Blu-ray disk for each). I suppose you would not care about lossy audio and highly compressed VC-1 encodes in order to get everything to fit onto a 30 GB disk?

I believe that is just being short sighted -- eventually to your own detriment.

It would still be a hell of a lot better than a 720p download. I'd prefer Blu-ray to win, but with Paramount's announcement there won't be a winner any time soon.

To those who are on the fence, owning both BD & HDDVD, and those who are going to get on the fence, by buying a HDDVD player:

I understand the desire to have certain movies that are now HD exclusives, but by buying HDDVD stuff you are only slowing down/dragging out the format war and further confusing the outcome for all the uneducated masses who walk into a store and only look at prices. They in turn may walk out with HDDVD and further drag out the format war.

Have patience these two formats cannot coexist for an indefinite amount of time. If you stick to Blu-ray all the titles that you want will eventually make their appearance on BD when HDDVD dies.

Just had to say that, even if one person changes their mind its worth it.

I agree. People hit the panic button way too fast. With many directors coming out and condemning this move by Paramount, it's looking likely that there will still be BD releases of some of the major films they control. Either that, or major releases (Spielberg, etc) will be delayed until after 18 months.

Thank you @ssholes at M$.

Before they do that, they should use the thread as an easy reference to start issuing bans left and right.

Hey, I just want HD movies.........I wouldn’t say I'm 100% loyal either way. A winner would be nice so the public gets behind it.

I am going to be a fence sitter on buying discs.......renting them from now on!

It was a peaceful feeling adding Matrix and other HD DVD movies to my Netflix list.

Face it..........two formats might be here to stay! If you want to play Bioshock...........guess what, you buy an Xbox 360. Are you telling me you stick your head in the sand and wait for it to maybe come out on the PS3.....some day?

It's a sign of the time with greed and $$$ in all the big corp giants.

What are the six stages of being stabbed in the back in a format war?

Shock - What just happened?
Depression - Oh no, now what?
Finger pointing - It's all X's fault.
Anger - M$ are evil!
Analysis - Wait a minute, let's look at this more closely
Fighting back - Oh, wait till you see the ass whooping they hath wrought.

For Christ sakes. It's a friggin' format. It's not like someone became a NAZI or became a terrorist or something. You BD fan boys really need to get out of your mother's basement and you know, join the world or something.

Really, it's rather amusing in a way. You act as if someone who enjoys movies, who has chosen to just watch movies no matter the format, are some kind of traitors to a national cause.

Someday, when the next big format comes out, this 'format war' will seem as just about as absurd as screen doors on a submarine.

It's different with the gaming industry. Even though games bring in billions in revenue, its still a niche market compared to movies. Not everybody on the planet plays games. While this is also true about watching movies, the movie industry gets the edge for whole mass appeal.
Right now consumers are more confused than ever, and if two formats remain for a lengthy period of time, people will get fed up and stick with dvd

To anyone wishing to make the jump to dual-format based on this whole Paramount debacle, I can only say, it's your money, and your decision. There won't be any name calling coming from my direction.

However, I would like to point out that this is exactly the response M$ and The Dud wanted to elicit when they paid Paramount off. Personally, I get a bad feeling being manipulated by M$ and I won't be supporting HD DVD anytime soon. This is only one battle, not the whole war.

Sounds like you need to relax. If you don't like the people here, if you don't like the people you call BD fanboys here, leave. Where do you come off calling the people here basement kids ?

I am 53 and retired and if these people you call basement kids want to express a opinion about how they feel concerning this recent bribe from hddvd to paramount, let them.
