Deals can be made to supercede older contracts. It's just a matter of compensation.

This might explain why a new release date hasn't been given.

If Disney was secretly planning a Direct-to-VOD release, they would've made Amazon take this listing down immediately. And if it's not a secret, it would also be available on other platforms.
If it was a standard pre-order, it would've been up around the original theatrical date (Apr 3) and it wouldn't be at that really unusual $25.99 price point.

I don't think so, I believe the HBO FOX deal just means they can't send it straight to Hulu or something like that.

This could've been the first movie to be back in theatres when theatres slowly re-opened but oh well.

No, they had to get Josh and maybe some others (specific cast, producers, etc) to sign off on a non-theatrical/VOD release due to the original terms of the Fox deal. If this is indeed dropping for PVOD for $25, then they indeed did that. It will not be streaming anytime soon because of the HBO streaming deal, so that always ruled out Disney+ or Hulu as options. Disney had 2 options, theatrical release or get the needed players to sign off on PVOD (for additional compensation I'm sure).

It was never going to do big numbers anyway so it would've been a good candidate.

So if this goes direct to streaming, does that mean we'll have to wait long for a blu-ray release or maybe not get one at all now?

It'll likely still get a physical release. Scoob is going straight to streaming and pre-orders for Blu-ray went up last week.

That did cross my mind, but it still doesn't explain why nobody else has it up for pre-order. I still think this could just be an error on Amazon's part, that they had it scheduled to go up for a particular date, and forgot to remove it from the system when the movie was delayed. I'm not saying you guys are wrong, just that this isn't at all conclusive.

No. The HBO Deal in place with Fox just stops Disney/Fox from putting it on say Hulu or Disney+ for free. It has to get a theatrical release or a paid digital release then HBO gets first premium tv and streaming rights for 6 months then it allows Disney to put it on their platforms.

Both Onward and Call Of the Wild popped up on the Microsoft Media Store as Pre-Orders before any other digital retailer and way before the Mouse made the announcement.

I wish these blu-ray releases would come out a month after digital.

It seems the link has disappeared, which is possibly a sign that the digital release preorder was made available prematurely before it was officially announced.

That's the second time Amazon's done that in the past month, too. They put Bad Trip up way too early as well (and in that case, they actually made the movie available for rent).

The 25.99 price also really makes me think they intended for it to have a digital release too. Normally Fox is 14.99-19.99

Reminds me of when Microsoft Movies and TV leaked Call of the Wild's early digital release a few days before Disney made the announcement. The date was deleted from Microsoft within hours.

Actually, the Pay-TV window is usually between 14 to 16 months.

Though as a counter, while Universal's theatrical releases go on HBO and Cinemax, their direct-to-video releases go on Netflix.
