Slumdog Millionaire - March 31, 2009

When they were marking my shipment as "shipping soon" at Amazon.ca, there was a short period where they listed it as In Stock, and that was last week. Of course, they were filling pre-orders and were quickly out of stock again, but it reverted to "not yet released" instead of "out of stock". They seem to have changed the release date now, anyway, as mentioned above.

Sorry it has taken so long to respond...been busy lately. In any case, the first time I watch a movie I am only concerned with being immersed in the experience, and not so much about the minutia involved with critically analysing the picture quality. That being said, there wasn't anything in the picture or sound quality that took me out of the movie, so on first viewing it is stellar...hope that helps.

We're in the same boat. I was just hoping that it wasn't completely botched. If you didn't notice anything, that's good enough for me.

"Manjha" is not going to be for everyone. It's black-and-white, has a subject matter that might be something some would rather avoid (child sexual abuse) and language to give it an R rating. I had high hopes from that one since one of India's most acclaimed filmmakers Anurag Kashyap was highly recommending us this and he was instrumental in convincing Danny Boyle to add it to the blu-ray of SM...

But now hearing ur description i m kinda put off

You're welcome, of course, but please be aware of my caveat. As others get the BD, you're sure to get more varied opinions. I'm interested in hearing what others thought, too. Sometimes understanding how art is interpreted by others can give one a better appreciation of it, if not a better liking.

Gonna buy this one...will post my opinion for sure...the film itself got mixed reactions here..being a film critic/journalist myself...I absolutely loved it..

There was also a big section though which thought it showed Mumbai/India in poor light...even amongst Bollywood actors there was a difference of opinion over Slumdog Millionaire. Bollywood's ageing superstar Amitabh Bachchan (he is the one whom kid Jamaal takes the shit plunge for getting his autograph) trashed it in his personal blog...

In fact he was the one first approached for playing the Quizmaster's role which after he declined went to Anil Kapoor..

I'm surprised companies aren't required to put the region info on the packaging. As others above, I went searching for the region code so I could report it, but found nothing. I suppose they are assuming that most people wouldn't even think about it (which is true, I guess). Unfortunately, it's important for imports.

With basically no reviews to be found utilizing my usual resources, an opportunity came about to take a peek at this one so I took advantage. I have been a bit anxious with this given there is some tough material to deal with and my local theater isn't all that great to begin. So why not as I really like this movie and will purchase it at the first opportunity available.

Well unless something changes drastically given the half hour or so I scanned viewing it, I was quite pleased with this one up to what limited availability I had. I really don't thing folks will have issues with it but I guess we will see soon. Grain is intact and it appears to be a very good effort.

Considering I was basically watching QoS and CR most of this week, if forced for a score at this point I'd say 4.25 - 4.50 initially for PQ. Cannot give a score for AQ when considering the audio was playing through the display's speakers. The dialogue was quite coherent and I never felt it to be strained given the volume was low while watching. No issues with any subtitles either from what I could tell.

I calmed my anxiety a bit and I'm now more stoked than ever. I hope no one will take offense to my rather limited preview but I thought to post it better than not really having any professional feedback up to this point.
