I would recommend buying the 4K films separately. The cover art is the same and the box set does not have individual slips for each of the four movies. The box is nice.

What I did, since I already had the separate 4K films, was to buy the Target Hunger Games Steelbook Collection. These are Blu-Rays, but the box is much more colorful and the cover art on the steelbooks is gorgeous.

Yeah I was going to bite on these films in 4K today and they had all four available to buy on Best Buy's site but when I finally decided I wanted to pull the trigger to get them all they were all sold out except Catching Fire. I'm guessing these went on sale for such a low price because of the new prequel book that was released today. Hopefully I will get another chance to get them later on.

ah, yeah I had thought about that steelbook swap too, but I already have all four of the target exclusive digibooks and the original
collection set, so the full 4k set would've been cheaper (but sadly never came back in stock, if it ever even was in the first place for the deal of the day), and I could swap into the target exclusives now if only the first movie matched the rest of them.. *shakes first*

The Hunger Games films are so good, I really enjoy watching them. Something else to be on the lookout for in the future, are the foreign releases. My understanding is that the 4K films are not region locked like the Blu-Rays.

I ended up purchasing the UK edition of the 4K collection last year. Great set with individual cases inside a slipbox. The standard blu-ray disc are all region B locked, however. Not a big deal for those like myself who already own the prior US editions and/or have a region free player.

I was able to get in order in at around 7am. Add in cart button was showing so I tried and first time nada during checkout told me sold out and brought me back to cart then I tried again and it went through now just waiting for it to get shipped

Finally finished watching all 4 of these movies (on VUDU in DV, not on disc) and this is how I rate the HDR of each movie:

I originally didn't buy the 4 disc UHD collection because I had heard they weren't much of an upgrade. Later I got a cheap $20 deal for all of them in UHD on VUDU, so I grabbed that. While it's true that I probably wouldn't have been happy if all of the movies looked like the first Hunger Games did in HDR, I was quite happy with the rest, especially the Mockingjay movies.

Best Shadows: Mockingjay Part 1
Best Highlights: Mockingjay Part 2
Best Color: Mockingjay Part 2
Best 4K: Catching Fire
Best Visuals: Mockingjay Part 1

I think given my experience with the digital copies I might be convinced to buy the 4 disc collection at some point to see them in full bitrate video and sound.

I've yet to watch my 4K version of the Hunger Games but I have heard similar comments regarding the first film.

My old gripe when upgrading from the blu's to the 4Ks was Catching Fire being locked at 2.39:1.

I love the shifting aspect ratios of the blu.

Interesting. I didn't know that they could be changed. How did you do it?

It was absolutely awesome on the 15/70 IMAX print. Not quite as impactful in the home though, I mean I still miss it on the UHD but the last time I watched it I didn't feel like I was missing too much. And the 4K resolution of that sequence (well, some of it, as a fair bit of the "IMAX" arena action was actually shot on full frame Super 35) still shines through on the UHD.

Yea this and DrStrange has the best aspect ratio changes. Shame neither kept this for the UHD.

Ahh OK, I have noticed that in on other films. Since I've only seen the series once on Blu-Ray I hadn't noticed it. I like the transition change, too bad they did not include it in the UHD.

I wouldn't be surprised if IMAX is holding it hostage like they are for both Infinity War and Endgame IMAX versions in order to push their own format. I think it's called IMAX Enhanced.

If I remember correctly, the Russo brothers said they were denied the use of the IMAX versions for the films' home video release by IMAX, who owns the rights to the IMAX version of the film.
