Default Great Movie, Bad Aspect

Name a movie that you really like or love that has an element that is distractingly bad. That hilarious scene in Let The Right One In where a woman is attacked by a swarm of horribly-animated CGI cats comes immediately to mind.

Superman: The Movie - "Can you read my mind?"

Don't Breathe - The very opening and the very ending.

That's a fantastic example. For me, there's also the opening and closing "modern day" sequence of SAVING PRIVATE RYAN, at the cemetery. So badly acted and staged, I can't even watch it -- reminds me of a bad student film.

Even before the whole Cancel Culture thing started, I found Mickey Rooney's ghastly performance in Breakfast At Tiffany's to be akin to seeing a cockroach skittering across the surface of an immaculate wedding cake.

Even putting the "yellowface" issue aside, it's a terrible, obnoxious character who drags the movie to a halt every time he appears. Even if he were played by an actual Japanese actor, it would have been terrible as written and performed. Shame, as the rest of the film is sophisticated and charming.

This wins. Yes. There's never going to be a better example.

Not the most egregious example, but I wish Kubrick’s The Killing didn’t have the voice over.

The Matrix, Neo vs Morpheus in the dojo. Two characters supposedly highly skilled in martial artist actually sparring like a pair of beginners.

The Irishman, de-aged DeNiro beating up a guy with all the agility of an old man in his 70s.

Yep, absolutely terrible, De Niro playing a character who was supposed to be around forty or so gimping around like the nearly eighty-year-old man he actually was.

A few Tarantino VO ones:

The part in Inglorious Basterds when Samuel L Jackson busts in to tell you who Hugo Steiglets is.

Quentins introduction to the Daramgue’s got a secret section in Hateful 8.

Both exammples of lazy writing. Tell me that shit with dialog.

The voiceover in Hateful 8 took me out completely and ruined the flow for me. I’m sure it works in the Roadshow cut when you come back from intermission. With the non roadshow cut I think it just ruins the movie.

Captain America: The Winter Soldier

When Nick Fury uses a laser to tunnel a hole through the street to escape the winter soldier, doing it in about 5 seconds. So dumb.

The character assassinations of Marcus Brody and Sallah in Indiana Jones & The Last Crusade, turning the former into a senile bumbler and the latter into a simpering comic-relief sidekick more interested in stealing camels than assisting Indy during the tank chase.

Though I found the movie disappointing after all the praise for it, I'd add the Irving the Explainer resurrection of a computerised Toby Jones to explain the plot for five minutes as one of the most spectacularly dumb and lazy deus ex machina bits of exposition in screen history.

Blade Runner 2049 - Deckard nearly drowning. It looks like he is not even trying to get out of the spinner.

That and the one liners in Batman Begins are like martians trying to write action blockbuster dialog, or perhaps upper class Englishmen.

A bit more obscure but along the same lines in The Clouds of Sils Maria the clips of the invented space fantasy film Chloe Moretz character stars in are just laughably bad, you could say its deliberate I spose but I suspect its moreso Assayas has never watched Starwars, the MCU, etc. It makes Stewarts character look like an idiot for putting value on the film.
