I went into the settings and changed the output from 720p, to 1080p. And now it works fine. The picture quality looks the same in both modes to me. Im sure the projector is excepting the 1080p signal and then downscaling it to the native resolution.

I do find it weird that when I initially set the PS3 up and had it scan for the optimal resolution, it set it at 720p, even though the projector excepted 1080p.

I tried the 1080p / 24hz, but the picture looks horrible. Even though the projector excepts it. I just turned that off.
Interesting info... well, at least I learned something new here, thanks.

PS3 was wonderful all around....until it froze and stopped reading any disc....after warranty expired (1.5 yrs).....DOES ANYONE KNOW WHATS THE PROBLEM.....CAN I FIX IT WITHOUT PAYING SONY $150 ??

(SYMPTOMS)...noticed fan ran loud often....started to freeze mid-game....eventually led to not reading any disc....insert disc and it makes one slight "reading noise" then nothing..no spinning..blue light is on recognizing disc in game and I get a bubble (top right) sometimes not???

(WHAT I'VE TRIED)....restore default....reset ps3....fan test...cleaning lens...dusted inside and out....formated utility...format hard (2hrs)...etc

(WHAT I'VE HEARD IT COULD BE)....overheating problem....bad lens...burnt something...bad hardware/hard-drive....firmware problem(I have 2.7).....temp. censor not sending proper signals....???????

ANY HELP WOULD BE GREAT!!!! THANKS

Probably Blu-ray laser died. Go to the PS3 board and look at the PS3 fixes thread to learn how to fix it yourself. You'll do fine as long as you know your way around a PC.

I too had an issue with my PS3 not reading discs. After a fruitless appeal to Sony I decided I'd be willing to try anything. Both the quick and complete system restore (during which I lost all of my game saves, trophies, etc.) did nothing so I tried a couple other things. I did the fan test and then I tried the "pressure fix". What I mean by "pressure" is I took out the PS3 and, while it was laid flat, pressed on the shell of the console above where the disc inserts while I was inserting a disc. Viola, success! I don't know which method I have to thank for the success, but it has worked ever since.

Now that Samsung has come out with some top-notch players (1600 and 3600) I'm pretty sure that's the route I'll take if the PS3 craps out completely. I have no intention of paying Sony $150 every year to fix what is, based on how widespread problem seems to be, a manufacturing defect.

This happened to me and a friend of mine. When my PS3 stopped reading discs i could see loads of tiny little scratches right along the centre of the disc. Have a look see if the laser has been scratching them.

That resume play feature isn't that big of a deal for me, but I noticed some movies do not offer that at all. Like the Bourne Trilogy, I need to memorize which chapter I stopped at last time; since the PS3 won't start the movie from where it was stopped. So I think it has more to do with certain disks than your PS3.

Depends on the movie.

I was watching 'The Day the Earth Stood Still' (remake) and it didn't resume play for me. However, when I restarted the movie, it started to load BD Live or something, so I think that could of been the issue messing with the PS3 Resume Play.

However, most BD Movies utilize the Resume Play function in the PS3. Typically they are the ones that do not have that initial loading screen at the beginning.

PS3 does not and cannot (nor does any other Blu-ray player) resume from BD Java discs.

Most discs being authored these days use Java. If you're lucky, the disc will have a bookmarking option.

The day had arrived. I just purchased a PS3 40gig with extended warranty and Hawx to start my collection.

To all the gamers:

For a guy who will most likely purchase only 3 or 4 games, what would you recommend for a #2 game?

#1 HAWX
#2 ???

(I was leaning towards Fallout 3)

Honestly, I didn't think too much of HAWX. It's a great concept and it's almost there, but it didn't quite make it for me. I played it to the end and then it just gathered dust.

In the year and a half I've had my PS3 I've spent more time playing Call of Duty 4 (not World at War) and MLB 09. COD is a great shooter and has some solid online play. I'm not even a baseball fan, but MLB sucks you in once you start a career. I like driving games, so I'm looking forward to Gran Turismo 5.

I was unimpressed with the Killzone demo. It might be a great game, but I'm a little bored with the first person shooter format and I don't really like games involving aliens, zombies or supernatural abilities.

I thought Metal Gear 4 was booooring, mainly because I don't play games for the cut stories.

I'm a huge fan of flight simulators, and I HAVE to check one out through my proj. I was also pretty close to getting Fallout 3, but I hate just buying something without at least a little research. (I played Hawx on my nephew's PS3)

So I'll say you recommended Call of Duty 4- I'll have to check that one out a bit more.

(By the way, is this the right thread for this?)

I would actually consider myself a gaming virgin...

In order, my reasons for a PS3 are:
1. Blu player
2. Media storage and playback
3. Gaming (online as well)
4. Maybe some web browsing

COD4 is awesome online. One of the best online shooters to date IMO.

Grevlin, buy Call Of Duty 4. I don't own it for the PS3, yet, but I've spent countless hours playing team deathmatch on the 360. It won't disappoint. If you want a great story oriented game go for Metal Gear Solid 4. But, you might want to play 1, 2, and 3 before getting into the 4th. InFamous is a lot of fun. My brother-in-law is playing it at the moment and all I hear is good things. Haven't played Killzone 2, yet, but I also hear good things about it, too.
