The only problem; no original Mono mix included (less that was an oversight).
Is the mono track included on this forthcoming release assumed to be a surround-sound fold-down or something?

The cover art looks pretty great. Just needs a black case (Severin Films’ website can’t come back online soon enough!). Even the steelbook case art is all right. Reminds me of the old, stark VHS cover from back in the 80s on MCA. I might have to finally splurge on a 4K player, I’ve been quite content without one until these releases came along. What would really seal the deal is if the rest of the catalog were remastered for 4K (especially Frenzy and Family Plot).

I’m going to end up with more copies of Psycho than Abbott and Costello Meet Frankenstein

I think it was probably in there somewhere if you want to go digging.

I'm watching the scene now; I remember that there was a very specific comment, "You can't have them lying in bed together kissing", so if you watch the scene he sits down and she sits up, they start kissing, and then keep kissing as they gradually lie down, and then immediately, as soon as they are both against the bed, they stop kissing, say a few lines, and then each one of them will lift themselves off the bed and kiss the other. They are never kissing when they are both lying down. You wouldn't think anything of it without reading the document, but I'm 90% sure he's trolling somebody with that shot.

The shot of the sandwich, which looks like it is masking a few line removals, I want to say that the studio insisted that they explicitly show that they "had lunch", which is why Hitchcock explicitly has the line be "You didn't eat".
(Also between "dirty love letters" and "I have to go Sam", I think there's a cut there too, but possibly pre-censorship, I don't remember the details, but there's a shooting script somewhere on-line.)

I'm certain that there was a script note about the guy's (lack of) shirt, but I don't remember what it was, just that the framing of that opening shot seemed funny in light of the note.
The book I'm most familiar with is Stephen Rebello's Alfred Hitchcock and the making of Psycho. I bought it when it came out in 1990 and haven't read it in awhile, but I'm pretty sure it went into all the cuts Hitchcock made to appease the censors. I know this opening scene was talked about in detail.

Seems a bit daft leaving it off, the German set I have with the uncut Psycho has the original mono in lossless.

Yes, that is very strange. The packaging does not indicate UHD. So is this intended to be played in regular Blu-ray players? If so, how many customers are going to have success with that?

There's a 4K release as well, I'm assuming the specs just got muddled.

Might just get the Hitchcock 4K set to future proof myself without triple dipping on this movie. I really hope it includes the original mono.

The extra stabs bother me in the extended cut though because the blade doesn’t ever have any blood.

Really looking forward to this! I love the artwork on the 50th anniversary release but I'm digging this classic artwork for this new release too.

I wish Scream Factory could get the rights to the original Psycho and the original Exorcist.

Scream wouldn't do UHD for them. Already great extras for both films on the current Blus. No real point for them to get those two films. Shout did do a Psycho Legacy doc on DVD though.

I’m sure Scream Factory tried to get Psycho at some point, but Universal wouldn’t license it. I know they wouldn’t allow them to do new art for the sequels because the franchise is a protected brand for them.

To wait on an eventual 4K single release or go in on this one...hmmm...
