I thought Geoff boy was referring to the ITV edition there, not the CC edition

The transfer itself is great...the encode is bad.

He’s referring to the ITV one. That one has a lot of banding.

Got to bump this. Just watched it, absolutely stunning transfer for a great film.

The first scene with David Niven was gorgeous, what a great restoration.

This joins The Red Shoes happily on my shelf. Thank you Criterion and Sony. Highly recommended.

Just to confirm with owners of this one- is the audio summed to the central channel, as opposed to being sent both to right and left channels, 2.0 style?

My processor seems to struggle with 1.0 audio for some reason (Point Blank and the initial Olive release of Invasion of the Body Snatchers are examples).

That is correct. Criterion always encode mono tracks in a 1.0 container.

Was playing on OPPO BDP-103D. Tried on Panasonic blu ray player and same problem.

Wondering if anyone else had issues or gotten replacements?

I have bought this twice and it freezes at the same place on all of my players, the opening scene with Hunter and Niven.

Finally got around to watching this after having it in my collection for way too long and YUP, it freezes during the ping pong match for me too. I was wondering if it was just my disc.

It’s supposed to freeze during the ping pong match. The characters are frozen and it’s completely silent for a bit.
