Visually, this is a stunning disc. If you have anyone on the fence or someone that says they can't "see" 4K, show them this on a good display. It almost looks like a National Geographic documentary it's so crisp and colorful. The sound is good as well.

As for the Director's Cut, I have mixed feelings. I think the Theatrical Cut is a bit better paced (although I was never bored with the DC) and what was cut isn't really crucial or even all that interesting albeit for one part.

I think the Theatrical Cut has a bit more ambiguity and that helps set the tone of suspense a bit more. This is my 4th time seeing the movie though so to a new viewer, they may have a different impression. Also, even though it's not meant to be, the Italian release didn't have English subtitles during the Swedish speaking parts. This helped add to the mystery and put you in the same mindset as the characters. Having the subtitles takes me a bit out of it.

One thing that did bother me was there was one scene (non-spoiler) where Dani mentions the photos on the wall and Pelle explains to her those are the past May Queens. Why that was cut from the Director's Cut makes no sense to me and was a nice scene in the Theatrical.

One thing that has always bothered me about certain Director's Cuts is when you have all of this added footage and then you actually lose scenes. Just give me everything. Now I have to pick and choose which cut I prefer instead of just having one gigantic movie with everything in it.

As for the one scene I did like,

[Show spoiler]the ritual with throwing someone in the lake as a sacrifice actually played into the ending where you see British girl getting wheel barreled into the barn and you wondered what had happened to her. Now, you understand that she was water bogged and sacrificed into the lake which is why her appearance was so bizarre. She's also wearing the same outfit as the kid who was going to be sacrificed.

It's a hard movie to recommend to people unless you like artsy or messed up movies but I love it and it holds up every time I watch it. I just wish this release had both cuts and some extra features to make it the definitive version.

I think you're the first person I've seen that mentioned this. Had no idea that a scene would actually be removed from the director's cut as I assumed it would still be the same as the theatrical cut with just more scenes added to it. Thank you for the heads up on that! Going to have to end up getting both versions now since I was intending to only get the DC on 4K whenever they restock. I also agree with your sentiment too.

Let me double check. I did get up once during the movie but I'm pretty sure it wasn't during that scene. Anyone else can confirm?

Edit: Just saw the other post. Perhaps a blacked out or just wasn't paying attention. If that's true, I take back at least that part from what I said

Edit 2: Forgive me - the scene is in there. Director's Cut redeemed. I'll volunteer myself for next year's Midsommar ritual for my incompetence.

I wish I could speak to the UHD but since A24 botched it and sent me the wrong disc I’ll just say “wow! What a nice looking Blu-ray.” Honestly one of the nicest looking BDs I’ve seen.

I liked the movie a lot. It didn’t think it quite hit the highs of Hereditary but it also didn’t faceplant the way I felt that movie did. This was a more consistent build up and payoff and much more visually arresting. All in all I thought this was a step forward and I’m looking forward to the next one from this director. Oh, and another great pick for end credits music.

Glad to know some people are at least getting theirs. Mine has been stuck in an "arriving late" state for 2 days with no explanation as to where it even is. I just cant see how even with the slowdown it takes a week to get from michigan to california if it's saying there haven't even been any stops inbetween.

Add me to the list of people who got the wrong disc, luckily noticed the "standard" sticker before I unwrapped it. I am hoping that at least when they restock their 4k discs they will offer to exchange.

I've ordered and mailed many parcels since the pandemic started and one package took seven weeks to travel from California to my home on the east coast. Going missing within the postal system for several days before the tracking number shows movement again is not uncommon now.

I cannot believe I forgot to order a copy. I just put my name on the interested parties list. I have watched the film on blu-ray a few times and I keep discovering things I missed the first time I watched it. I did find a brand new 4K copy on ebay last night and I ordered it at an exorbitant price - which is something that I have never done before. I checked ebay today and there are a lot more copies at cheaper prices. You only live once!

Someone can charge whatever they want for an item on eBay, whether or not you think they're a scalper. (The listing guidelines also allow for pre-sales as long as the seller is up-front about it.)

It's a shitty practice, sure, but there's nothing explicitly against eBay's rules involved.

I try to save hype stickers from Blu-rays and albums whenever possible, so I added it to my collection.
