I'm resurrecting this thread because some people might think it's lost or can't be bothered looking for it or discussing the Hobbit films here instead of spamming the LotR thread.
Enjoy.

Yeah, i went to this thread because you posted the link. Thank you for doing that.

As for this release, i saw someone on Reddit claim that it's being planned as a Middle Earth box set with all six movies. Has anyone here heard anything like that?

I haven’t. But I also haven’t looked into it much lol. If these upcoming releases are going to recycle the same old bonus feature discs, I’d honestly be more than happy with a “budget” release of JUST the 4K discs. I’d love a nice compact nine-disc case for all six extended editions. And I’d probably bite on a six-disc release of the theatrical cuts.

Yeah, i would be content with only 4K discs too. It will definitely be interesting to see if they seperate the TE and EE versions.

It's worth consideration, gentlemen, that the first full and complete adaptation of The Hobbit from 1968 from the BBC as a radio drama (full cast and sound effects) clocks in at just under 4 hours run time, with nothing added or removed from the book.

Understandable that Jackson chose to take Tolkien's 'thumbnail sketch' action sequences and expand them of course, plus give us the full battle of the five armies, but even removing the subplot with Sauron, the film's were way too padded out and expanded. After i saw Desolation at the cinema, i knew fine well there were sequences in the film i had zero interest in watching again. Principally the turgid contrived Elf/Dwarf romance... (And yes i own the trilogy on 3D...) (Hey, i've got 5 copies of the book in various formats, what can i tell ya?)

I would LOVE if we got a 3 and a half hours integral cut as a bonus feature.

I'm not suggesting there actually IS, but i wouldn't be surprised if there was a fan edit of the trilogy that brought it closer to the book, again as adapted in the BBC version, And out of interest, Tolkien himself thought the BBC Paul Daneman starrer was superb apart from 'a little too much humour'. You can't get a better approval than that!

What filmmaker would want his work to be chopped up? It’s a pretty ludicrous idea. I’m sure that Whatever the flaws and I’m sure Jackson would acknowledge them, he is still overall proud of what he made

I won’t be buying the complete collection I’ll wait for the individual box sets like the Blu-ray sets. The last complete collection set was sleeves and was way to much.

Really hope that collection is real, I'd love a 4k set with Theatrical and Extended cuts all together.

Considering that it's called The Middle Earth Collection it should contain both trilogies.

My exact thoughts, but I had thought I only saw this post in this thread and therefore was wondering if there were more info to be shed.

This isn't going to happen; one of the biggest potential releases in the 4K history, and Warner are going to release it in 2 months time without a major announcement as of this date? No. Not believing it.
