It’s on its way to you. It just took a long time to leave LA. My order from them that arrived yesterday “only” took 8 days. I was expecting longer.

![]() ![]() The occupants of a hospital find themselves in a decidedly unfavorable situation when they are quarantined due to a mysteriously infectious parasite and ultimately victimized by a massive praying mantis-like monster that is powerful enough to bite the heads off of its human victims. A police detective, played by Steve Railsback (Lifeforce), a doctor, played by Gwynyth Walsh (Star Trek: Generations), and an entomologist, played by Don Lake (Police Academy), are the only ones who can save the community from disaster, but they must race against time to prevent the giant creature from spawning hundreds of ravenous offspring insects. The 1987 Canadian horror film, Blue Monkey (Insect), directed by William Fruet (Funeral Home, Spasms), is a pleasing blend of 1950s giant insect matinee cinema and 1980s practical gore effects that hits the ground running from the get-go, as an elderly man is rushed to the hospital after falling unconscious following exposure to an exotic plant. The distinctive cover art of its VHS tape edition caught my attention during my teenage years when it was a fixture at local rental stores, so I was pleased to discover that the poster images do not oversell the actual feature. The full-sized monster does not manifest itself until well into the last half of the story, but its emergence is well worth the wait. Be on the lookout for John Vernon (National Lampoon's Animal House) as a hospital administrator, and for SCTV stalwarts Joe Flaherty and Robin Duke as an expecting couple. Helen Hughes (Billy Madison) stars as an elderly woman whose greenhouse plant kicks off the nightmarish proceedings. Finally, a young Sarah Polley (Dawn of the Dead) shows up as one of four children who scamper around the hospital tunnels where the monster lies in wait. I will not go so far as to say that Blue Monkey is an unsung classic, but its mix of campy humor and visceral scares are just what the doctor ordered for fans of obscure 1980s horror. This Dark Force Entertainment/Code Red Blu-ray hits the sweet spot with a good-looking transfer that gives us plenty of colorful detail. This mostly bare-bones affair, with just a trailer in addition to the main feature, is a fine addition to my 1980s popcorn movie collection. Last edited by The Great Owl; 08-13-2020 at 12:08 AM. |

Yes provided we haven't lost a large amount of the inventory. Although if it is a bigger amount they will likely replace it. Should have some kind of word soon hopefully.

I had never heard of "Beyond Love and Evil" so was surprised when I looked it up on IMDB and read the first review (from 2003) which Dark Force stole their blurb from, without attribution. Low blow, Dark Force-ians!

I think it's hilarious that you are angry about my post though, since I was just pointing out Dark Force's behavior. They steal someone else's words, you get angry at the messenger. And you wonder why people call you out in this thread for being an apologist?
