Thumbs up The Tale of Despereaux Blu-ray.

Hey, noob here. I caught hold on the Despereaux Blu Ray and I was almost stunned on the display. There was a few parts of the movie that didn't live up to the quality, such as scenes in the dark, yet, if you want to see Despereaux on Blu, this is living up to expectations. Extras are not much, some games targeted at the toddlers, two deleted songs, brief "making ofs" and a sneak at Curious George 2. Nothing special on BDLive for Despereaux, sad to say. But as I said, good for any wanting to catch it on hi def. I'll be posting the first review on the site here to. Wish me luck.

My wife and I caught Despereaux at the dollar cinema and I didn't like it, but thought some of the art direction was pretty nice.

...don't forget to mention that the film is a flop.. just saying. Other than that, hope it looks good for those who like it.

Just saw it tonight...it was an eh film.. I'm happy I didn't buy it. Bolt was a much better film. IDK what it was about Despereaux but it felt slow-paced.

Agree. My son watched it once, and I asked him I he wanted me to buy it...his response, "no that's ok Papi".

The Newbery-winning book itself was Meh, but Meh = "Watered down 'parallel backstory-lines' fairytale-pastiche version of Princess Bride", not the movie's Meh = "Dreamworks-esque retread of old Ratatouille territory".

Although the story was all over the place, the sense of adventure and fairy tale made it very entertaining. I'll buy it one of these days. Can you believe this is Univeral's first animated film on Blu-ray?

Agree with most of the posts here. Also if you have very young children you must know that there was some scary stuff and some really gross moments. Suffice it to say, the rats here are much less cute than those on Ratatouille.

However, all the lighting and art direction were excellent, clearly inspired in the Flemish painters. The castle was very inspired by Vermeer, whereas the Ratworld was more Bosch/Rembrandt.

Couldn't help but be reminded of Secret of NIMH when I watched this. Still, I enjoyed it more than Ratatouille. I'll definitely be picking this up.

SoNIMH is coming to blu-ray. Anyone have any idea when?

I can't find a good price anywhere on TToD. I may just order from DVD Empire (they don't have a good price either but they have coupon codes for medium to large orders)

If there isn't anyone in your town, (maybe all on spring break), you can pick it up at Target easily.

There is more to success than box office performance. Critically...it was a flop.

You've also overstated it's gross revenue.
Have a source more accurate than Box Office Mojo?

Critically.... who cares. Opinions differ.

I want to see this. Stupid Netflix simply can not provide new releases anymore. They always go straight to long waits for months. And now they charge much more for blu-ray rentals.

Couldn't make it through the film. They showed a town full of mice and it said it was called "Mouse Town". So then they showed a town full of rats and I jokingly said, "Let me guess, 'Rat Town'?" Sure enough, it was

Had to turn it off. The story was in shambles, the animation sub-par, and the voice acting uninspired. A painful experience.
