Here is hopping the 5.1 sound track came from the 6 track 70MM. The Hi-Def Digest reviewer was quite pleased with it and even more so with DTS Neural:X engaged. Can't wait to give a go with Neural:X or Dolby Upmixer. Maybe gotmule has it and will do a comparison as well.

Upgrades are fun, but, in general, I think that I like adding altogether new titles to my collection a bit more. I sometimes feel like I am on a hamster wheel buying the same movie over and over.

A big advantage for the studios and physical, they get to sell us the same content over and over.

I agree, The Ghost Stories for Christmas are excellent, and I suspect there are many DVD releases of archival TV material that will never receive a Blu-ray release - so hang on to those DVD's whatever you do.

Entertainment In Video always seemed to have a bad reputation for transfers (at least the UK releases), and in my experience, that wasn't far from the truth. I don't know why it should have been the case, but I recall some of their titles were really dreadful.

Just recently been going through some DVD's I've had for a long time, and I've even got a lovely HMV boxset of the original Star Wars trilogy which was gifted to me.......I've never been a Star Wars fan, but this set is really nice. Personally, I've always enjoyed Star Trek far more.

Looks great on BD. The extra minutes that were supposed to be in the film and got cut are in the special features section.

I could never diss DVD because it was such a big part of my life for more than a decade. It felt exciting and like you say, some of the packaging was great.

EIV, yeah it was a odd one. The film ‘Seven’ was particularly bad. One of the things I love about Blu-ray is it’s handling of smoke, rain, fire etc.. if a DVD was poorly authored, it could look dreadful. On the flip side, it felt great when a DVD was handled well. Also, those colours didn’t half pop!

I am on the fence on picking up FG. That might be one of those down the road I pick up though.

Some of these discs will be the last time they are untouched by the studios. I would say that’s ****** priceless to some of us.

Short of breaking into people's homes the studios have absolutely no way to change or remove any content on the discs they've already sold.

Studios also have absolutely no way of preventing those discs from being resold or given away to new customers.

A movie on a disc that I own can not be changed by anyone ever. Anything on a remote server can be changed, or removed, at will by the owner of the content on that server. This is not a hard distinction to grasp.

Just because you have not lost anything, yet, in whole or in part, does not change the fact that it can happen. It has already happened to other people. With your digital collection, you own nothing. Everything that you bought is on someone else's server and you have zero control as to what happens with that content. The terms of service governing your digital purchases makes it quite plain that you have no rights, or recourse even, should content be edited or even outright removed.

Of course, you would not care even if it did happen to you. Cheap and convenient is all that matters with you. Artistic integrity of content is optional solong as you get a bargain.

It is true that content providers may alter subsequent releases on disc or IPTV. The title Payback comes to mind, I had the DVD but sold it before receiving the BD. The BD version that I received had the color timing and the last chapter completely changed. I was so POed I sold the BD. Taught me a lesson, never get rid of a disc till you are satisfied with the subsequent version.

I got rid of all my LaserDisc because I ASSumed all the titles would be released on DVD. Was not to be, but at least I now have The Keep on DVD and in OAR rather than P&S I had on LaserDisc . Still have a few D-VHS D-Theater titles.

When I move on ALL of my physical media (CD, DVD, BD, UHD BD and D-Theater) can be distributed to family, friends and charity. All my IPTV content will become worthless unless I share info that I am not inclined to do.

the comment on physical media definitely borders on insanity And even though Wendell made a valiant effort to try and make it sound less so in the end the choice is 100% with the consumer so the defense does not work.

the comment on servers would depend what is being discussed.

if it is streaming: it is just as insane and shows no grasp of reality, it has happened many times before and every service provider is honest about it.

if it is legal local copies it is jut delusional. It is a matter of assuming it wont happen to anything they care for.

if it is a local pirated copy then he is right, no one can take or modify it without the owner of the copy wanting to change it.

I don't know what you mean by that, but I haven't seen any Racoons here. Coyotes, Fox, Road Runners, Quail, and Rabbits I have seen but no Racoons. Our daily 3-4 mile walk along the Virgin River, is always full of surprises!

In saying that, I also had trouble connecting to a photography forum a few moments earlier, but yet I could access every other site I picked at random. I have to say though, my internet can be a bit hit-and-miss at times.
