I enjoyed it for the most part. Romance was very unnecessary and telegraphed from miles away. Was not expecting so much of the Demon Bear to be shown very much but it does have a decent amount of screen time and was pretty menacing. Magik stole the movie and Lockheed was a really nice surprise.

People hate IM3? I get annoyed by how much hate IM2 gets, its way better than IM3.

I agree. IM2 isn't half bad. Anything is better than IM3 though.

Sucks for Anya Taylor-Joy that this movie ended up being so awful.

She's a hell of an actor.

Still hoping she gets the Furiosa role in the Mad Max prequel.

It'll have no impact on her career whatsoever. She's got a lot of work lined up, and if THE QUEEN'S GAMBIT turns out as well as I hope (Tevis' book has always been amazing), a possible Emmy nomination on the horizon. She's absolutely fine.

I saw The New Mutants in IMAX. What a terrible movie. It is just bland and lame. Nothing memorable. Like a worse and more disappointing version of Glass (which was already disappointing). I’ll never watch this garbage again. At least Dark Phoenix had an EXCELLENT score.

Logan & Days of Future Past are the very best X-Men movies and will likely remain so for a very long time. It’s amazing a franchise could make movies that vary so much in quality.

I just saw The New Mutants. Yeah, it’s just okay. Not terrible. Not great. Not even good. It’s just okay. It really does look and feel like a low budget TV movie – and one that was produced in the 90s. It looks very cheap and it’s all just kind of blah. I was all for this hybrid of superhero and horror genres on film, and was fully supportive of this film, but, in my opinion, it definitely ranks below ALL the other X-Men films.

Yes, below Apocalypse, Dark Phoenix, The Last Stand, and Origins. I agree with the RT audience score rankings I posted earlier.

I hear a lot of people saying New Mutants is better than Dark Phoenix, including The New Mutants’ own director Josh Boone, but I’m sorry, Dark Phoenix is the better film. You shouldn’t be so cocky, Boone.

It’s not that I think Dark Phoenix is perfect, and I understand the fans who were disappointed in it because it was a second attempt at a beloved comic book story that yet again deviated from that comic book story and did its own thing. But judging Dark Phoenix as its own film within the context of the previous X-Men films within the series, I found it to be pretty good. It’s certainly a hell of a lot more ambitious, visually appealing, and entertaining than New Mutants is with its cheap cliché teen drama, horror tropes, and bland execution.

I really wanted to like this film, but the best thing about it is Anya Taylor-Joy as Magik. The other two actresses, Williams and Blu, were okay, too, I suppose, but not much of anything else left a strong impression at all.

This will be the first X-Men related film I will not be buying on blu-ray.

See I felt the total opposite. Dark Phoenix was bland, cliche, and boring with visually unappealing direction and a strong lack of character development. While this was visually appealing, unique, and engaging with characters you can actually give a crap about. I even went to see the movie a second time yesterday as my theater sent me home early from my shift as it was pretty dead and I had time before my ride arrived, my opinions of the movie have not changed between my two viewings.

Is Anya Taylor Joy good enough to see this in theatres? The reviews are worrying me.

Seeing all these negative reviews got me thinking I should wait for it to be on Disney+ or a very cheap Black Friday sale on the 4K disc like I did with Dark Phoenix. Pretty unfortunate as I was looking forward to it. Oh well, more money for my wallet this weekend.

I'm sure Disney have spent more than $750,000 on The New Mutants. They'll bury the loss under the figurative corpses of the FOX management.

Not sure how many theatres this opened to, it's down as limited, but Unhinged opened wide to twice the numbers.

Yes! She made the movie for me. If you are really worried about it, just watch a matinee showing. Its not a long movie either.

She’s very good here. Basically steals the spotlight away from the rest of the group, although I do have Maisie pretty close behind and hope to see more work from her.

Also, the reviews are making it out to be way worse than it really is. Worse than Origins? No way. That film was a damn near travesty that was salvaged only by Wolverine’s presence. New Mutants has much more going for it with the horror elements and the group dynamic, and at the very least, has a different feel to any other X-Men story we’ve gotten.

At worst, this movie is decent, fine, average, etc. I happened to find real enjoyment pretty much all the way through, but then again, I had my expectations lowered because I already sensed critics and people online on forums like these would bash it regardless. If you go in with an open mind and pretend a world without reviews or RT scores exists, you just might like what you see.

Even if it got good reviews I was never going to pay to see this movie due to the anti-blackness.

Now I will continue to do so to honor Chadwick’s memory and what Black Panther stood for.

This is objectively false. The whole film centered on Jean’s development of overcoming her past trauma/fear of her power and becoming the Dark Phoenix in the end. Much like how Joker centered on Arthur Fleck’s development into the Joker. Or more similarly how First Class centered on Erik’s development into Magneto.

Not trying to be condescending but this an obvious fact tends to flies over people’s head because of misconceptions about the Phoenix Saga.
