How do you know the scratches weren't created due to handling before being put into the sleeves?

Disc 2 has several long scratches on it. Not circular - long straight scratches, like from being slid into sleeves.

People who say sleeves don't scratch discs aren't actually looking at their discs.
Not true. My BTTF 30th anniversary BD’s still play issue-free after lots of handling.

I just pick the standard 4K disc release; all the “extra” stuff isn’t even necessary.

I am not region 2 so unless it's all region that may not work for me. Also the price will be a factor too.
Region 2 is for DVDs but in any case these will be Region Free, its Universal remember.

Process of elimination--discs in cases are virtually never scratched. Discs in sleeves are more commonly scratched (as borne out by consumer feedback on the issue). I hate math and even I get this.

You realize they keep using sleeves because it's not a big enough issue to force them to stop, right? If they had 10-15% of sleeve sets returned because the discs were scratched beyond playability then they would stop. It's probably more like 1-2%.

I did a surface scan on my PC drive and the surface is readable. I didn't do a full file test to see if the files can indeed be fully read. But we all know drives can differ. My PC drive software may very well be able to read it now, but 2 years from now my next blu-ray player may not be as good at handling disc errors.

Discs can get scratched even with amaray disc hubs
Some can come scratched even before been used.

What matters is if the discs play

DVD discs are subject to be affected by scratches long term but Blu-ray discs less so.
Scratches can affect resale value. Back when I used to trade them in to local shops, they would not even accept discs with so much as a single scratch, because customers did not trust buying scratched discs out of fear of playback problems. So if I want to sell them later, those scratches may diminish what I get for them.

I don't. All I have to go on is lots of my sleeved sets have scratched discs, and the surface of the disc is directly against the cardboard, which is clearly not ideal.

Is there a single reason why cardboard sleeves are better? I see lots of defenders claiming sleeves are fine. Is there even a single benefit to using expensive, custom sleeve packaging over cheap, common, safe blu-ray cases?

You say this, yet 90% of releases use standard blu-ray cases (yes, I made that number up - but obviously standard blu-ray cases are the primary storage choice for companies).

I would think it would cost far more to make complicated fancy printed cardboard sleeves over using cheap blu-ray cases which are in abundance.

why is disc stacking or plastic case spin rubbing any different from cardboard sleeve rubbing?

and with some of the plastic cases you almost have the bend the disc in half to get it to pop out, I'd think that might be more dangerous to the disc

Disc stacking isn't great either. But disc stacking just means plopping them down onto another disc. If the disc spins on the other discs, it can get circular scratches. I used to have this issue with spindles of blank discs way back. Usually it was the top disc or two because those could easily spin during handling of the spindle, causing them to scratch. The weight usually prevented the ones further down from rotating, so they were usually okay. I've bought stacked blu-ray releases and had scratches too.

Dragging them out of a sleeve is entirely different. If any grit is in the sleeve, it can scrape against the surface and scratch it. This has been explained in here many times already.

For any proper blu-ray case, you don't need to bend the disc to get it out. I've seen some of those, and I consider those another improper method of storage. Any proper blu-ray case easily pops the disc out just by pushing in the hub.

Each film in the trilogy comes in its own steel book case with a single slip cover. One 4k and one Blu-ray disc. One of the three cases has three discs rather than two included as the third Blu-ray has the extras. In the states, often times BB ships via USPS unless you pay for expedited shipping. Because of so-called "restructuring" (more like sabotage) of the Postal System, expect slower than average shipping times.

Thanks for info!

I just hope they ship in box.
Plus, believe it or not... I have better luck with USPS.

My boxes from UPS always come crushed pretty much.

Unrelated to the 4K set, but related to BTTF, did anyone else get the Factory Entertainment keychain/pin set? I ordered it ages ago and it arrived today, in a suitably memorable VHS-sized container that brought back happy memories of the well-loved VHS copy of the first film that I grew up with. I'm not normally into these kinds of pin sets, but this one was worth it!

Just to follow up on this, the back cover of the Australian release has been posted, and it doesn't appear to include the 2.0 tracks on either the UHD or Blu-ray discs. Based on the language package offered, I would expect these discs to be issued in the UK, as well:

[Show spoiler]

Although if the Psycho palaver is any indication, the 2.0 tracks could just be downmixed from the 5.1...
