Pretty shocked they announced the end of this show, but then again it makes sense. The ratings have been dwindling over the years. It seems like I'm one of the few people who still enjoys this show

I'm just glad it won't be dragging on forever, like what the writers and producers said they could do. I like a definitive ending to a show.

With however many episodes of the Daryl n Carol show if it ever gets made.

And let’s not kid ourselves. That Rick movie is never getting made. This thing should of started shooting at LEAST last year. Hell there’s not even a director attached to it(is there even a script?). And they don’t even know how they’re gonna distribute it..

Regardless of the pandemic this thing should have been closer to getting made than it is right now that’s for sure. When was this thing announced originally anyway? I think close to his exit a couple years ago?

Will people care in 2023?

I wasn’t counting that as it’s a spin-off, but thanks. I’m intrigued to see how they’re going to end the show. Hopefully it’s something good.

The movies were announced two years ago.

Reportedly, Andrew Lincoln is “unsatisfied” with the scripts that have been written so they call for multiple rewrites.

It’s the least of worries as AMC still needs to produce and film these additional six episodes for Season 10, begin production on Season 11, and start developing the Daryl/Carol series along with the Tales of TWD anthology show.

When you really think about it, ending the main show makes a lot of sense given how much source material is left. They’re likely going to end the series after the last of the source material is used, and include a different ending that will set the stage for certain characters to appear in other movies/spinoff series.

Nope. I could care less now myself. They should scrap that bring Rick back for season 11 and end it all. I don’t want to see a daryl and whatever her name is spin-off. Was always a fan but I’ve now lost that feeling. One more season and I’m out! Hope it’s good!

honestly, no

Andrew thankfully severed that chord, maybe he should do what Tom Hardy is doing and toggling between movies and TV work - British actors have this sort of work ethic and doability in tow very well. He needs to step away from the character once and for all.

True now, but they wouldn't have to worry about that in the final few episodes of the show. It's not like he's going to end up on Fear with Morgan, so there would be no reason not kill him off in a blaze of glory in the finale or something? Now we kinda know that's not going to happen because they're getting a spin off.

Only way I can see otherwise is if their show is set in the years we skipped after the war with the Saviors or something.

I can’t help wondering if Daryl will feature in the movies.

Probably not. They'll want to keep Rick Grimes as the only big character. Also, they are too far appart (for now).

I suppose it's possible, assuming they ever get made.

Daryl could disappear for a few episodes though, they could find a way to tie it all in. I think it’s inevitable. At least for the second movie.

I find it hilarious that everyone posting believes Daryl and Carol will survive through the series end simply because they have their own spin-off.

Shows how few on here don’t actually read the comic books. Otherwise they’d know the stories outcome makes it near impossible for them to be alive by the time the show reaches its end

Being that Rick, Carl, Michonne, Dwight, and Andrea are no longer attached to the TV series, their comic arcs will have to be given to characters that are still on the show. Regardless, the following is *MAJOR* comic spoilers and could possibly be where the show is headed.

Anyways, the final issues reveal that
[Show spoiler]after Rick’s assassination, the story jumps 35-40 years into the future with a grown up Carl reading to his young daughter. I can only imagine that an adult Judith will take Carl’s place but there is no way Daryl and Carol who are in their 50’s will be alive by that time.

There’s no guarantee it will end like the comics.

I'm sure they'll keep some things from the comic ending, but they're going to have to change a fair amount, and I'm sure that they'll write in the spin-off tease to reflect that. Norman has always said he imagines Daryl walking off into the sunset with Dog- maybe they'll add Carol into the mix too. That way, those who aren't interested in the spin-off will still get closure on their story, but they'll leave it open for those who want to continue. I don't really see any other time period it could take place in. There's been a few time jumps, sure, but then it gets tricky with us already knowing what happens, and fans would want other characters back. I'd bet decent money the spin-off is after the main show ends.

The Carol/Daryl spinoff should take place in a different time period. Unless they somehow live to be 100.

And this is why the comics have been so much better than the last several seasons. It’s a damn shame folks on here never bother reading the comics. They would be getting a more developed and entertaining version than what mediocrities the television series has given us.

Robert Kirkman being the sole writer helped maintain the consistency in writing. Yeah once I read the comics I couldn’t go back to the show.

I was wondering about this, too. The best I came up with is that they want a double-length final season so they can ride right into the conclusion without another break, so they can gather a big "one last hurrah" momentum, as opposed to risking losing more peoples interest with a prolonged end.
