your settings seem very close to what i finally settled mine on (not an XBR though) with the sharpness cranked down, im curious what exactly you are seeing as far as ghosting and halo's?

Default Some settings from me

Hey,

I just calibrated my Sony 52-W4100 and here are some settings I think work really well.

Picture Mode: Custom
Backlight: 2
Picture: Max
Brightness: 55
Color: 50
Hue: 0
Color Temperature: Neutral
Sharpness: 1
Noise Reduction: OFF
MPEG Noise Reduction: OFF

Advanced Settings ALL OFF

White Balance:

R-Gain: -7
G-Gain: 0
B-Gain: -15
R-Bias: -2
G-Bias: 10
B-Bias: 5

Let me know what you guys think and if you come up with any improvements on these settings.

Default A "Cooler" Option (XBR4)

Like many of you I obsess about getting the perfect picture for the TV I am working with. My 46" Sony XBR4 has been tinkered with often. Recently I downloaded the calibration test patterns found here on AVSforum.com. It was very helpful for setting white and black levels. Unfortunately, I don't have any color filters, so I can only go by "eye" for color.

Today I tried a comparison with my Custom setting (below), and the settings from Road Warrior (done by a pro) and Onehothemi. I chose these because the 3 settings would be very different. Road Warrior's is set to Warm 2 with a Backlight of 2; Onehothemi's is Neutral with a Backlight of 8; mine is Cool with a Backlight of 4. The other settings of course vary accordingly.

My 2 cents (after doing some exhaustive comparisons with the Imax sences from The Dark Knight and from i Robot. I put Road Warrior's on my Standard, Onehothemi's on Cinima and mine on Custom):
1) Setting the backlight too high seems to crush the blacks.
2) I really don't like the general hue that Warm 2 gives. For me it is too yellowish. (No offence. This is purely a personal preference.)
3) The calibration pattern really helped me with Sharpness. I tried to set it to Minimum, but the individual pixels on the test pattern began to blur under 25, so I set it as low as I could.
4) Noise Reduction should always be off to avoid motion blur/smearing. All 3 settings had this off, but I wanted to emphasize this, since for months I had NR on and was tremendously bothered by the blurring I experienced.
5) Advanced CE set to anything but off caused the black levels in the test pattern to fluctuate too much. This was a surprise to me.
6) Edge and Detail Enhancers: I know that some like the pop that they provide, but if you are fussy about picture distortion, then they need to be off. Example: in The Dark Knight when Alfred goes to the underground bunker after not finding Bruce at his penthouse, look at the edge of the pillows, and then look at the chainlink fence in the bottom right. With EE and DE on, the lines distort and waver. This bothers me, so DE and EE must be off. If your eyes can accept this, than the extra pop in the picture may be worth it.
7) Motion Enhancer: for 1080p 24fps I almost always have it off. As with EE and DE, it causes far too much distortion. The exception (I'm not sure why...) is Baraka. With the ME on High, I get little distortion and a "hyper-real" effect. Very cool.
8) I really like the Cool setting. To my eyes, combined with proper White Balance settings, it looks the most natural. I should add that if I had the color filters, I may have adjusted my hue and/or White balance, but for now I'm going by eye. If you have never tried a setting with Cool, I encourage you to give it a try. You may be surprised.

A few of the settings on that site are professional calibrations giving you a fairly realistic picture and I used some of those settings as a base to push the sharpness and color a bit more than recommended. Below are the settings I currently work around. It seems to be the best general setting I've used. The image looks good in a dark or light room, live action, animation, games, etc. Screen shots are in my HT gallery.

Give it a try and throw me some feedback if you make changes you prefer.

I use similar settings to yours but I like it set on warm 2 and I have the Edge enhancer off and Detail enhancer off do you think there's a big difference by leaving them on?

I commented on this a few posts ago. For distortion/artifact free BD viewing OFF is the safest way to go. For DVDs or SD TV programs, EE and DE may work great because you may not notice the fine distortions.

Default Stage & raised seating

I need some help here. I am in the process of building my HT and I'm at the point where I need some help. I am building my HT in the basement on a concrete floor and have a stage 3'6" x 12' and a raised seating area 10' x 12'. I need to insullate between the joists because the bass reverberates like crazy. I've see some people use sand as a sound deadener but was wondering if there is anything cheaper or less work to install. I apprecaite your comments.

PS: To get a better idea of what my project looks like check out my gallery.

I will say -19 seemed like alot to take off the blue but thats what we ended up at.

The kelvin on the "Vivid" setting which is what I previously used was well over 14,000. After the calibration we are between 6400-6600 on any given light intensity.
Thank You! I got it set but I haven't had to watch a movie yet but my sons cartons look very good. Thanks again.

I want to caution you about the Noise Reduction. I experienced a motion blurr/smearing effect that drove me crazy when I first bought my display. I finally found a post that suggested turning the NR completely off. Wow, the problem was instantly solved. So, if you are experiencing something wierd in the picture, shut he NR off.

Default Custom Display Settings

Tried a few of the display suggestions, and some look really good. Anyone have any input into specific display settings for a KDL-40S2010, using a PS3 for Blu-Ray and using HDMI? Just curious if anyone has some insight into that specific setup....

Anyone know the correct display settings for the KDL 52S5100? I picked up this tv at CostCo just last Thursday and I wanted to know if anyone may have the settings for it. For an "S" series tv from Sony it has excellent PQ and so far it has made me a happy camper! I also ordered the update from Sony as well that corrects some minor flaws the tv supposedly has. Anyway anyone have this tv has has an idea what the settings should be?

USA kdf-50e3000 tv's with 24hz

i just recently got a new lcd tv that doesn't display blu-rays in 24hz but in the normal 60hz and went back to my main tv with the 24hs and noticed much more blur with motion. i use a 40g ps3 to play blu-rays and went into the video settings and turned the bd-24hz display setting to "OFF". now it displays at 1080p 60hz. much better picture quality!! if anyone has a tv that displays 24hz i would recommend turning that off.

Default kdl-40m4000

Hey guys anyone can help me with the kdl-40m4000 I bought it like 6 months ago but ever since I been having problems with the image settings, of course I did not use vivid.

right know I have it like this

Picture Mode: Standard
Backlight: 6
Picture: 66
Brightness: 50
Color: 65
Hue: 0
Color Temp: Cool
Sharpness: 15

Noise reduction: High
Black Corrector: High
Gamma: High
Clear White: High
Live Color: High
Light Sensor: Off

I adjusted it with a Blu ray disc, however when I use it with the PS3 I got this horrible blur that seems to make image transcends the previous one.

Does anybody has it? What should I change on the settings?

Please someone help me !

Thanks.
