It's nothing ground-breaking, but I enjoyed it! It's the only one of the Disney live-action remakes I've actually bothered to watch, come to think of it. Burton and the cast seduced me.

well for starters, Disney trailers for Pete's Dragon were shit ...

and it's sad that Disney fans really prove that any semblance of repetivity is fine and dandy - the amount of fans crying foul that Mushu wasn't in the Mulan remake made my head spin.

I remember it starting out fine, but then by about midway through, it became a typical later-stage Burton movie: there's a lot going on and I couldn't care less. I miss when Burton made good movies.

They ARE desecrating their legacy by serving audiences nothing but reheated leftovers in a fancy new dish. Kids of the 90's got original movies to grow up on, today's kids get the same movies their parents grew up on, only with all of the spontaneity, charm and originality removed. But hey, look at that meticulous digital fur rendering...!

Disney used to re-issue their animated classics every seven years or so to introduce them to a new generation, now they just Xerox them, and anyone who's ever used a Xerox machine knows that no Xerox copy is ever 100% as crisp and vibrant as the original source image. No one will ever RE-visit these new versions, they'll just go back to the original movies.

I honestly don't get the negativity for the Dumbo remake but hey, different strokes for different folks.

and it's a shame that two of the best 'new' features from Disney have been relegated to Disney+ (one due to COVID) "Togo" and "The One and Only Ivan"

The Dumbo remake was...solid (it was certainly no Alice In Wonderland), and at least it didn't copy the animated film verbatim, but it was still depressing to see Burton put his own vision on the back burner just to remake someone else's property.

Same here. I feel Burton got a bad rap from critics (who probably wish they altered their reviews once the beloved Lion King came out months later), and the CGI Dumbo was just adorable. Emoted very well, and I remember getting goosebumps in the theater when Dumbo finally took flight in front of the circus crowd.

This seems like such an odd project for Barry Jenkins to take on. Still, I'll watch anything the man makes. I never saw the 2019 remake, and I'm not chomping at the bit to watch it anytime soon based on everything I've seen and heard. So if Barry can inject some "life" into the proceedings, I guess I could be down for that.

So again, why so much anger? If people will go back to the original and the remake will just be this curio that happens to exists, why so much seething anger? Is the problem that they bothered to remake The Lion King, or that the characters didn't look like cartoons? I don't get it.

Because Disney used to stand for innovation, whether it was storytelling or tech advancements, but increasingly over the last 20 years, it's swung WILDLY over to the latter. When was the last time Disney made something that wasn't a remake, sequel, or adaptation of an existing property? It's exhausting.

When was the last time audiences showed any remote interest in such content?

I can get angry at a company for doing what it's supposed to do, even if it's not necessarily what I want. Or I can just roll with the punches and try to enjoy what they are giving me, which I mostly do. They rarely produce anything great these days, but that could be said of any studio.

So did A Wrinkle in Time and Queen of Katwe and The Finest Hours and whatever else go straight to DVD? They were marketed, they were in theaters. People didn't show up.

Because they've been CONDITIONED to accept crap remakes and sequels. Plus, A Wrinkle In Time was terrible.
