I bought the Aussie 3-D release a few years back. It's a strange film about a hitman for hire, named Boogie, who decides to go to war against a criminal gang. It was produced by an animation company in Argentina.

Apparently, this US release has freezing issues. Two Amazon customers reported freezing on their machines. My Aussie release does not have these issues. Unfortunately, the Aussie release appears to be OOP.

I bought the US disc which is made on demand and burned in a bd-r. It is actually an exact copy of the Australian disc. And I also experienced a glitch while playing.

I assume that the original language for Boogie is Spanish? If one would understand Spanish would you say that the French Edition is the best one to get? Seems it is the only Edition with a 5.1 Spanish track.

Australia Freezes on the Australian version-- anybody else experience it ?

I wanted a pressed/region free copy so I went with the Australian release. I just watched it and it froze at 1:15:00 and 1:15:56. It froze on both Sony UBP-X700 and BDP-S6700 players. The disc looks physically fine.

What's odd is that if I choose to play it in 2-D from the title menu, it plays fine through both parts. But, if I play it from 3-D, and then switch to 2-D from the LG TV (by hitting a button 2D/3D toggle button the remote), it plays in 2-D but still freezes at 1:15:00 and 1:15:56 marks.

Kind of bummed out. I paid some $$ bucks to buy it off an Australian seller off ebay. I'm not sure if I should return it or live with it.

Has anyone else experienced this problem with the Australian release ?

I’m now very glad I never bought this edition. I did buy the American disc and it froze a couple of times and I just assumed it was due to it being burned on a bd-r. I’m thinking that maybe there is a problem with the Australian master as the US disc is an exact replica, down to the Australian warnings in the beginning. Wondering now if ripping the disc to a hard drive and playing it as an iso will solve the problem.

Just tried the Australian release of "Boogie 3D", original factory-pressed Blu-ray 3D disc, using an Oppo 203 and LG E6P display.
Find that the film does freeze @ 1:15:00 and 1:15:56.
The good news is that the player still will continue the film by pressing fast forward and play on the remote. i.e. The freezing does not affect the playability of the player, and the movie continues after the pause, and does not seem to miss a frame.

For what it's worth, I watched the Australian disc on my PS3 and it didn't freeze at all.

That is good news. It might indeed be some sort of branching problem that will be solved by having just the 3D in a iso package. Anyone care to try?
Also, the ps3 was a terrific blu-ray player. I wonder if the ps5 is gonna follow suit when it comes to UHD discs. Tired of my x700 freezing up with triple layer discs and ruining the movie experience.

Well, but just by having to fast forward, you're missing frames in real time. Regardless, since it appears to be systemic to the pressings and not my individual disc, I'll live with it.

BTW, to anybody following the thread, Boogie in 3-D is a glorious experience. Even if you don't buy it, check it out via a friend's copy or rental. Things are coming at you throughout the movie and even the end title scenes are a trip.

I’ve been meaning to buy the french disc which is also 3D and comes with the original spanish track in 5.1. Hopefully muxing the english audio and subtitles will be easy peasy, and maybe there won’t be a glitch on this one. I still say it’s a branching problem, if the 2D edition on the same disc does not give any glitches.
But at least I know I’ll be able to get a problem free english track from my disc to mux with the french video mvc track.

I just bought it, $33 shipped. Trailer looks pretty hilarious and I’m always up for animated 3D obscurities! Hope it doesn’t glitch in my player…

Thanks for the heads up!

The 3D is surprisingly effective with some excellent depth and awesome pop-outs. As for the movie itself? I will start by saying that I don't like much of modern Political Correctness. But Dios mio! This is next level and I'm not sure this movie could be put on broadcast TV anywhere. I don't know how this got made and I have no idea how it got by the censors of any country lol.

This is a pretty evil reprehensible film, completely irredeemable, and I can’t believe it ever got made or released, especially in great 3D…but I’m kinda glad it exists, because it’s so ridiculously wrong it’s fascinating

Deliberately over-the-top offensive in the same vein as early John Waters films. Offensive for the sake of being offensive. The mangled dubbing makes it really odd. Love the layered cartoon animation.

They barely missed a chance to be offensive lol. I don't think I've seen anything quite like this in some time or ever. I got the French disc, so no English, only French dub and original Spanish. I had to add English subtitles which were mostly pretty accurate with only a couple of obvious errors.

Thank you. That's a very silly error on my part but it's been a long time I was going to say mios Dios which would have been a little bit closer but it felt wrong.

This is like if 80/90s action were crossed with noir and turned into a cartoon. He's like Duke Nukem for Noir

Boogie is practically the patron saint of all bros everywhere. That scene when he sends the surly street punk into the gang hideout had my sides in orbit, I haven't seen anything close to that since The Boondocks

I thought John Waters was all about degeneracy, like having "Divine" eat the real-world version of a certain Patrick Stewart-voiced emoji. Did he have over-the-top machismo movies?

Over-the-top yes but machismo no. John Waters is the King of Camp. Pink Flamingos gets all the press but I think Female Trouble is a masterpiece and I'm a big fan of Cry-Baby and Serial Mom.
