Question Goldfinger weird picture issue

Just wondering if anyone noticed right in the beginning of the movie when Bond takes off the bird hat disguise he has on when coming out of the water, it looks like the film fasts forwards - just during the moment he takes that bird hat off up until he shoots the rope gun to climb the wall.

It's a very short moment, but wondering if anyone else noticed or if it's just my disc or my eyes??

i dont own it, however, i do own some other "older" blus that skip a little...bonnie and clyde was one of them (in 1 scene she walks to the car and suddenly appears AT the car ).

your problem is most likely a result of the film's edit and not a problem with your disc but since i dont own it, someone else will obviously have to confirm this for me.

That moment has always been artificially sped up. Don't know why, but it's not a disc issue.

If any of you did watch the "extras" with master editor "peter Hunt then he talks about a trick he uses alot in the bond flicks what he call "speed up" the film in some scene to highlight the action.

Yeah but did you see the jump cut when a car rounds a corner and the car jumps down the street? It's near the end in the USA portion. I don't have the time here but it was amusing.

This was a technique used in several 60s' and 70s' films. Omega man and On her majestys secret service come to mind.

This is just how it is, nothing to do with your disc, player etc...as far as I know Goldfinger has always had that speed up during that scene. Actually a lot of the Bond movies from that time use speed up in certain scenes (especially the fight scenes in On Her Majesty's Secret Service), and choppy (elliptical) editing.

That is a classic Peter Hunt edit. The man was a master.

I think there's a few moments in Thunderball during the boat-chase where they use speed-up. It always looks horrendous to me!

Yeah, with modern eyes it looks awkward, but the alternative was to leave it to run in "real time" and it would have looked lumberingly slow. The 60s Bonds also used a lot of back projection which can look awkward at times too, including during the fight on the bridge of the Disco Volante.

British directors and editors did that nonsense all the time in the 1950's and 60's and it looked awful. More annoying is that they thought they were being clever.

There is similar stutter-cutting in a fight scene in THE DAY THE EARTH CAUGHT FIRE. When I saw it, I was convinced the disc was defective. I played the scene muliple times to see if I could get it to play properly.

Finally, I put on the commentary track and heard the director brag about how clever he was by cutting out frames to speed up the action.

Moron.

It's not just the bit where he takes the bird off his head. Most of that opening sequence is sped up a little. It's quite distracting by modern standards. Maybe they thought it dragged a bit and speeding it up was their solution

If Peter Hunt felt the action was moving too slowly he would literally speed it up.
