It just goes to show you how f'd up the old Blu-ray's were. Ugh! Not the absolutely best Uni has done, but nothing close to Bourne Identity or Hot Fuzz, or some of the few other DNR'd to death stinkers. |

Do the new releases look better than pretty poor 2010 Blu-rays? Mostly yes, although growth of detail in certain parts is highly debatable. Do the new releases look good enough to profit from 4K resolution? Absolutely and totally not.

Looking at part 3, about every screen cap makes the blu-ray looks like a DVD.
![]() Truly a monumental jump in quality. |

Watched parts 1 and 2 back to back last night and thought they looked wonderful! There’s absolutely no point invoking the likes of BourneID here - it’s leagues ahead.
They’re on the ‘managed’ side of ‘filmic’ and really very pleasing. Tonnes more finely resolved detail and natural dynamic range. The car park scene in the first had so much presence to it - the sense was not only of watching a very fine grained print, but one of depth and immersion. The second movie has a flatter look to the cinematography (a surprisingly middling effort from Cundey), but grain is present and there are many moments that have never been rendered as well as they are here - the neon reds on the casino rooftop for example and the rain downpour at the end. Caps simply aren’t doing these justice - the grain is there and looks natural for the most part. A couple of times the HDR grade has pushed a couple off coral reds too hot and I noticed rather angry grain in one particular primary blue - but these were passing exceptions in a very competently handled image. Anyone considering cancelling orders is overreacting imo. It’s head and shoulders above the job done on Star Wars and still has that 80s look and feel. |

I woke up in order to remind you that these UHD releases have image detail worth of 1080p, maybe less. You are praising Universal, but we could get these ten years ago, if Universal did their job right, instead of making BTTF a cash cow.
As far as I'm concerned, this is very poor job for what 4K could offer. Four times sharper than Full HD? That is a bad joke. https://caps-a-holic.com/c.php?a=2&x...9&l=0&i=6&go=1 |
