Your post is confusing- you typically don't want to hear which direction LFE is coming from- ie non-directional. Yet you mention that you LIKE to hear directionality. Then you mention using two subwoofers to solve that problem- typically two subwoofers helps with standing waves and reducing directionality. Finally you talk about two for stereo. As a whole I'm lost.

Two subwoofers can be used with a Y-splitter from the LFE out. Typically the smaller the speaker, the less it's ability to produce a wide range of audio well- this is just simple physics, as the sound has to work within the enclosure. Beta's listed some that do as well a job as can be expected.

Perhaps if you clarify a bit what you're looking for it'd be easier to offer advice?
