I may have to pick this one up.

As a result of this thread, I went and broke out my Italian DVD of "The Amazing Colossal Man" today. I bought it several years back on a whim, but never ended up watching it. It was a film I had on 8mm back in the 70's when they were releasing 10 minute versions of movies.

I guess I wasn't sure if the video quality was going to hold up since there never was a formal US release. Actually, the quality of the Italian DVD was pretty decent. There were a few scenes early on that were fairly scratched up, the dupes used for the projected scenes were fairly soft, but the primarily film elements appear to have come from a quality source. I was pleasantly surprised.

There was indeed a formal US DVD release, on a double-bill with EARTH VS THE SPIDER.

I could be wrong, but from what I could see on Amazon that double bill was with "War of the Colossal beast" and not "The Amazing Colossal Man", which is what I was referencing.

Correct. AMAZING COLOSSAL MAN is with Susan Nicholson. WAR OF THE COLOSSAL BEAST was the co-feature on the EARTH VS. THE SPIDER DVD.

There might have been a DVD of AMAZING COLOSSAL MAN as part of the Mystery Science Theater series.

Oops I’m so sorry, you’re correct of course, my poor brain thought you said the other film.

I have that one too....

I went through a lot of crappy VHS to Dvd converted
[Show spoiler]boots

until I found that one after some thorough research. I'm not sure what they used for the transfer but it actually looks like a Dvd. As far as I know, this is the best Dvd version available in the the world for The Amazing Colossal Man....

Thanks to Smithb and you for the alert on this version, which I did not know existed. As I would like to watch both COLOSSAL movies together, I decided to track this one down and pick it up. I'm currently in Europe and found a USED copy on Amazon Germany for 12 Euros ($14) shipped. A little more than I like to pay for a DVD, but I too have my doubts that Susan Hart will ever do anything with her film holdings. I don't suppose there are any extras on this particular Italian release? But it is letterboxed, correct?

I believe there may have been a trailer. Yes, the release is in proper letterbox. The only thing that stood out as being an Italian release is that in a few instance where a sign was show in English an Italian subtitle appeared for translation.

That, and adding the obligatory mustache to the main character. Seemed abit much, but when in Rome...

Don't say "only" to me, pardner. My number one desired extra is ALWAYS the original theatrical trailer. I'm loving this release already!
