Since it is to be released by MGM, it will never see the daylight. I'm just kidding, but I still have issues with MGM.

I'm still waiting for the second season of The Outer limits on DVD. The first season was released January 2005, over 4 years ago.

Talk about slow motion...

Hi Jeff or Bill,

I was wondering if there are any plans of releasing The Brave Little Toaster to blu?

It's deleted on DVD here in the UK so I'm wondering whether to wait for the blu-ray version, if it's released that is.

Children's titles are extremely low priority for Blu, especially catalog

Seems to me like Disney is making children's titles a huge priority for the foreseeable future, especially catalog.

Disney's a little different than the other studios who only dip their toe in it, no? Their usage of the vault system has kept demand high for all of their big titles, no matter the age.

Disney is an entity unto itself, and mid-low selling, low-budget TV movies like BLT are at the bottom of the priority list

or is it just an issue with the FIRST season and none of the following seasons?
I don't know about the second season, but later seasons have 24p sources. Season one represents the early days of HDTV.

Like Jeff says, as long as you have good deinterlacing, you should be fine. I just know some will be vocal about it not being 1080p24 on disc.

Appropriate yes, but from a marketing standpoint, better to catch the big PR wave already running

My guess is you'll see Se7en here in the U.S. (from New Line via WHV) next year.

Yeah, I've heard nothing yet. You can bet it will be released eventually though.

All mentioned in the daily column on The Bits a few weeks ago. I think we've posted cover art too recently for some of these...

I was under the impression that most HDTVs didn't properly deinterlace (IVTC) film-based 1080i content, though, you had to get something like a Kuro or a Sony front projector. And with the PS3 still not deinterlacing 1080i discs (even though it can do it for non-AACS protected discs and .ts files), a lot of people probably have a right to be disappointed with 1080i releases. Although I'd imagine a lot of non-videophiles wouldn't notice the difference.

By the way, just a heads-up... CBS's Star Trek: The Original Series - Season 1 on Blu-ray is AWESOME. Worth the wait, worth every penny if you're a fan (though we'd still recommend Amazon's $73 versus the full $130 retail SRP).

My full review is here, and Jeff can confirm my two cents I'm sure...

A pity that it seems that no US studio is willing to use lossless or LPCM for an original mono/stereo track even though it's common practice in Japan, but good to hear the video's been improved upon over the HD DVD version. I remember hearing a bit about the artifacts it had, actually.

Criterion does lossless mono and stereo.

Yeah, forgot about them. Unfortunately they're the exception to the rule (and haven't yet released much that I'm personally interested in, but that's another matter).

640KBps 1.0 Dolby Digital is essentially lossless. Unlike DTS, it can devote the full bandwidth to the single channel

Even 192kbps 1.0 is virtually lossless given the limited fidelity of most things recorded in mono

I ran the first 2 episodes tonight, essentially the only problems you'll find are inherent in the filmed episodes themselves. When they got the focus right on set, the detail is amazing You can even now see a shift in detail from the optical printer coming on and off on beam-ins

I'm also happy to report that Shatner's rug still holds up in HD, no wonder he forgot to remove them on his way home from work...several times
