Mardi Gras Massacre is a 1978 American horror film written and directed by Jack Weis. It is a semi-sequel of the 1963 film Blood Feast. The plot follows a serial killer roaming the streets of New Orleans, Louisiana, sacrificing women to a Peruvian god. The film is notable for its reputation as a "video nasty," having been banned in the United Kingdom upon its release and given an X rating in the United States.

Please note: Kino had announced a reissue of this Blu-Ray for 2021 however that reissue has been cancelled.

I didn't miss out but I never bothered to upgrade my DVD after getting rid of it. Definitely grabbing this.

Their gore gag is great, but they just reuse the same gag each time there's a kill. I'm almost surprised they didn't just reuse the footage. The movie is fun if you enjoy really trashy stuff, but it's pretty nonsensical.

To be honest it's a terrible film but the decent production values make it watchable IMO.

I'm so happy to see so many of these Code Red releases seeing re-releases. This was another I passed on initially that I'll be pre-ordering this go round. Fingers crossed that Trick or Treats is announced sooner or later.

Is it good. Welllllll, no. It is however entertaining as hell. It's basically a remake of Blood Feast, and if I had to watch one or the other? I'd go MMM 8 out of 10 times.

Yeah, that's a shame. I wonder what happened - rights issues? They didn't think it would shift units (which to be fair, this probably would be a big seller)? The world will never know.

I somehow missed that this had gotten cancelled. Huge bummer as I hadn’t picked up the old release.

Does anyone know why this was pulled for reissue from Kino? I have wanted to get it for a long time, but I'm not sure about jumping the gun on the crazy prices the original pressing gets listed for. Kino's announcement today about reissuing Tricks or Treats does give me some hope, unless the reissue was cancelled due to a legal problem.

It could very well be a rights issue. I tried asking Kino and was ignored. Also asked Bill, and he just gave some cryptic response, which gave me the impression it's rights related. You never know though. Thankfully I already have it, but sucks for others that can't enjoy the sacrifice boogie.
