This was from the current sale that is going on now, the ones I ordered had them in stock and not on backorder. So maybe the titles your ordered are on backorder, I really do hope you get your order very soon though.

Bought these two today, haven't seen War in a long time but Come and See is a blind purchase for me, been doing that lately and frankly I love the reward of buying something in the hope that its good and to find that it delivers.

I’m not really sure, either, but I rate them the same way. As much as I love Stanwyck, I think Forty Guns needed a stronger male lead to balance her. I also feel that The Gunfighter was tighter in terms of story and direction.

"Forty Guns" can be a bit of a polarizing one. I was a bit underwhelmed on my first watch but I grew to really adore it upon re-watches. Criterion's transfer is excellent but I do wish that Criterion would of found the original four-track stereo mix as the sound-stage in the film is screaming to be in stereo.

My Three Colors boxset arrived from Amazon today... in an oversized, prime-branded bubble mailer. Luckily it wasn't damaged. Amazon continues to confuse me.

After receiving my Varda box directly from Criterion from their flash sale, it was missing disc 10 (Demy docs) - just got word from them on my replacement disc coming a day or two ago.

Even with the pandemic, I prefer to do my B&N sale shopping in-store to support retail. While I preordered Essential Fellini just out of necessity (it's unlikely I'll be able to pick it up in-store before the sale ends), went yesterday and today at a local place during lunch breaks...

I ordered Do the Right Thing from them a week ago, and it arrived looking like somebody dropped it from an upper floor of the Sears Tower. Either it was dropped from great heights, or somebody got very aggressive with the spider wrapping. Naturally, I ordered a replacement, explaining why, and the next one came in a Prime bubble mailer big enough to hide Jimmy Hoffa in.

Fortunately, the replacement was in pristine condition. But yeah, Bergman864, sometimes their packaging decisions baffle me.

I got this during the flash sale and watched Blue last week. Great looking and sounding disc and a tremendous film, and I've only made it through about half of the extras so far. Looking forward to the other two films which I haven't seen since VHS back in the 90s!

From what I hear a previously written ending for Forty Guns was much stronger -
[Show spoiler]Stanwyck getting shot and killed by the male lead
. Stanwyck is terrific in the feature, and in doing the "dragged by a running horse" scene herself after her stunt-woman refused to, proved herself a total badass.

I too received Three Colours in a bubble mailer from Amazon, a few years back, and another order sent around the same time, of two Scanavo-cased titles, arrived in a stout box with air pillows. Crazy.

You would think Amazon would have some sort of standing rule about shipping blu-Ray boxed sets. They’re expensive (typically over $20 per film), and cinephiles tend to be very conscientious about condition. A box and bubble wrap, or a few air pillows, costs virtually nothing compared to having to eat a $60+ set.

I’ve had Amazon replace so many different digibooks and boxed sets that were damaged in shipment that I’m simply amazed there isn’t some blinking note atop my account information window about how my orders should be handled. I have spent a small fortune with them on movies-not as much as some, but a substantial amount for sure. It takes so little to ensure that what I order arrives in acceptable condition, yet far too often, they just toss it in a padded mailer. And if they’re doing it with me, they’re doing it with other similar customers.

Clearly a company like Criterion will never approach Amazon in terms of business revenue. But in my experience, Criterion has always bent over backwards to make sure that my experience is top notch. If they can go that extra mile, surely Amazon could, too.

Obviously Amazon has run the numbers and decided that putting box sets in bubble mailers where they can be crushed is less expensive than using proper boxes, even considering the increased breakage. Amazon has sufficient volume for this to make sense.

Clearly this doesn't apply if you are a small merchant. I once ordered a $100+ OOP CD that was shipped in a bubble mailer. It arrived in shards. The seller had to eat my refund on top of losing the original product. That was an expensive lesson for them.

We have a member over here in the UK who was permanently banned from Amazon for excessive returns, even though they acknowledged that every one had been due to damaged items!

I'm not convinced Amazon has any policy on packaging - I suspect the packers are under so much time pressure they just grab the nearest thing to hand, regardless of what the item is. Could be wrong though

This is really concerning me lately the more I hear about this. I'm in the US but AFAIK this is an issue with US Amazon customers as well. I'm not a frequent returns customer but in the last few months I've returned 5 items total (both Amazon US and UK). I'm a consistent buyer on Amazon and have purchased way more (and I mean way more) than I've ever returned in the past 15 years at least but I'm worried one day Amazon is just going to ban me if I need to return something else in the future. How is this right? How often is considered "excessive"?

Crazy thing is with the insane amount of blu rays or anything I've purchased from Amazon over the years, there's only been one blu ray I've ever had to return due to damage (unlike numerous other Amazon customers apparently). The rest has been due to disc defects or mistaken orders.

You ain't seen nuthin' 'til you've opened up a bubble mailer and found a disc literally slathered with what assumably is enough hand sanitizing gel that has congealed due to cold weather so as to look as if the packer scooped up an entire handful of vaseline and and flung it onto the product before inserting it into the envelope for delivery.

This happened to me yesterday.

I bought a movie from a UK seller off Amazon. You would've thought Amazon packaged it as well. It was in, what can best be described as a bag. No insulation. Not a bubble mailer, just a bag. It looked like what you'd get if you removed the bubble part of the mailer. And, like I said, this was coming from the UK.

I don't understand these practices.

I don't usually have issues with packages. Even with previous Amazon packages. It's just odd.

That's odd because just about everyone I know in the "real world" (i.e. not in the blu-ray collecting community) buy stuff from Amazon and return it all the time. For example, it's not uncommon for folks to buy clothing items in multiple sizes, keep the one size that actually fits, and return all the rest. It's Amazon's seemingly lassez-faire attitude towards returns that allows them to do this, not to mention consumer protection laws that permit you to return items because of damage and/or change of mind.
