Your Panasonic TV should do a better job than the PS3 & Faroudja. My Vizio does a better job than my Faroudja( receiver ). Unless your using a high end video processor( Anchor Bay VRS, Silicon Optix HQV Realta or Faroudja's latest etc. ), your fixed pixel TV will handle the video processing/upscaling the best.

My 47" 1080p Vizio outscored the PS3 & Faroudja( receiver ) on the HQV benchmark test. As a result, I have the receiver video processing set to off/pass thru.

is the upconvert feature of my plasma always on? I don't remember seeing a setting for that in the menu anywhere, for instance like in the PS3 settings you can select options for upconverting. Another thing I've run into a few standard def DVD's is that the image will be widescreen in the display, but there is at least 3-4" of black around the image. Only way I can get it to fill in better is selecting zoom on the tv display options.

there is no "upconvert" option for a Plasma. It is what is called a "Fixed Pixel" display, so if it's a 1080p set there are 1080 rows of 1920 pixels each. The plasma will automatically and always scale the image to fit that.

If it was not doing that, a standard def image would only be 480 rows of 720 pixels, and therefore would not fill the screen...

Did you use the Blu-ray based version, or the DVD based version? Also, how easy is it to run while managing which component is doing the upscaling? I have the DVE Blu-ray disc, but I don't think it tests upscaling like the HQV disc.

Sorry for the sidetrack, but it's an important utility.
