Hdmi is the best possible connection. If you have 1080p capabilities you shouldn't have to set anything except for resolution for your inputs. 1080p for hi-def players, 1080i for cable or sattelite. You want the output to match the input. Cable and satellite transmit at 1080i not 1080p. If you don't have 1080p don't worry, experts agree that you can't tell the difference on any screen smaller than 46". The lines are shot onto the screen at a rate that is faster than human vision. Same amount of info. in both signals.
