Amazon order showing a delivery date of Saturday for me, now. I'm in TN, and the tracking info shows it shipping out of Seattle, WA.

Colors are fantastic.

I don't know what sources people are using or how they are doing HDR to SDR range conversion, but the actual bluray sources (images below) have everything intact, grain and all.
I take what I've said so far back, these releases are the best LOTR releases to date.

To be honest, I didn’t really notice the difference.

But yes, I agree that that colour grade shouldn’t carry over to the 1080p Blu-ray, it wouldn’t translate well. Which is why films should receive separate SDR grades, rather than simple auto-conversions of the HDR master that WB is notorious for.

Can someone post comparison pics of Arwen at Aragorn's tomb and pics of the Ent battle?

Hence my suspension of the HD Blu-ray going to be a definitive presentation of the original 2K.

Well this is what the original Ent battle looked like for reference.

What a wholesome thread this is turning back into. Hooray for people seeing the entire runtime and having their input with receipts For shame those still howling at the winds claiming DNR is rampant. Or even fearing it is. You only risk people not purchasing these sets.

IDK why you would do that from a place of ignorance to speak on it, but wholesome turn here is truly great to see!

I watched all three movies in The Lord of the Rings Trilogy three times at the theater for each one and countless times at home on DVD back in the early 2000s when they were released.

For the past 15 years, though, I have suffered from "Middle Earth fatigue", and have not felt remotely inclined to revisit them.

(This is one reason why I was not impressed with The Hobbit films in the slightest.)

I have lately had a hankering to return to these first The Lord of the Rings movies, though, so the 4K set is timely.

The 1080p version on iTunes utilizes these new masters.
If you want to see what the new color timing for the Ent battle looks like in SDR then check it out. That’s probably what will be on the new blu-ray.

I feel similarly. I saw all three theatrically and watched the DVDs of both cuts many times and grew tired of them until the EE BDs were released. Since that release I've watched all three maybe 3-4 times, but it's been over a years since I've seen them so I am excited to see them again on UHD.

Indeed. Thankfully more and more folks should be having this set in their hands by the hour now and I suspect we'll be seeing them chime in here with more positivity...because all three titles look great, easily the best home release of these to date IMHO. To quote Aaron Rodgers..."R-E-L-A-X".

Also, I have an early bird special this morning for you friggin' nerds...my digital code for the trilogy is free to the first PMer.

EDIT: Code gone (a new record )

Nothing to worry about, there is not one among us that didn't experience LOTR fatigue.
I still rewatch the extended trilogy 2-4 times a year.

This 4k release definitely worth a rewatch, fatigued and unattentive, but still worth the rewatch if only for the correct colors and fixed CG.

I mean look, they fixed Moria's door for us, even if it's a super dark scene and almost invisible.

$10.03 price drop on The Hobbit set on Amazon, for those who are interested. Now $79.96. Lord of the Rings remains at $89.99, with this note:

"Usually ships within 1 to 2 months."

It’s a relief to see the film grain in those images from the actual discs. I had questioned whether to keep my order or return it. But I’ll absolutely be keeping it now.

I’m still uneasy about some of the color timing choices, especially for the “flashbacks”. I hate the way the Arwen “flashforward” looks now , but these still look to be amazing upgrades (especially for the Theatrical Cuts).

Is this one of those cases where if I don't buy now I may never see it at this price again? Is this pretty much sold out in big box stores?
