That depends on Weinstein/Genius Products getting their act together. Who knows? Maybe Tarantino and Rodriguez will weigh in on the subject at some point soon.

i think a significant release like LotR at the end of this year will help nudge lucas closer to releasing Star Wars on blu-ray within the next several years
it will probably grow the market by a good amount and by that time prices will also be coming to a very affordable point thus expanding the blu-ray user base even farther. Giving Lucas one of the things he is surely waiting for.

i personally would be surprised though if we saw a star wars release before second quarter 2011

what i wonder is what will come out first, the PT or the OT (assuming they arent released simultaneously that is)

The OT will come out first, I now actually wonder if they will aim for 2013 since that will be the 30th anniversary of RoTJ...

We also just posted cover art for the Complete Series set (same for both DVD and Blu).
Bill can those cases inside that large box be removed? I;d prefer to put them on my shelf and not have a huge box. Also are they blu-ray case height?

Bill/Jeff would either of you have contact information for LionsGate so I can try to ask them something?

The only thing I'll say about Star Wars with any certainty at all is that I don't think it'll take 7 years like it did with DVD. Luas was sure we'd be on high-def formats by 2000 at the latest, and in a rare exception guessed wrong about the future

For me, I'm setting my realistic goal of getting Tucker: A Man and his Dream a soon as possible

Who to ask and whether you would get a productive answer would depend on what you're asking

Are you hinting that there's a possibility that the 6-disc Japanese DVD release will be replicated on Blu-ray??

Not hinting anything, simply CMA maneuver beause the movie is owned by so many different companies and I dont know what they're all thinking/doing. I think Billl and I are both pretty sure that Weinstein isn't doing it any time in the near future

Jeff/Bill,

Please tell me that The Last Starfighter bluray is going to be transfered from a new master and not that godawful master that was used to make the godawful HD-DVD.

In all seriousness, part of my job is to analyze the information coming in, and to protect the sources of that information. So let's say I have a hypothetical situation like this

A new Star Trek movie is coming out
Master tapes of the Trek movies have arrived at a facility that handles cleanup and restoration
Therefore, it is reasonable to assume that the Trek movies are undergoing restoration for a new release
I'm a little confused.

Didn't the Trek movies already get clean-up for this current release (with Trek 2 getting a more complete job) ?

Are you saying, hypothetically, that the other 5 original series movies might be getting further clean-up for some future release? That would be great news, if it happened.
Also, if you could ask someone over there if Treks 2, 3, 4 & 6 might ever be released with deleted scenes sections?
I would re-purchase the movies in an instant if they included a nice set of deleted scenes.

Thanks so much for all your good information.

Here's the thing, if they did not re do the master, then they could have put this out as one of the first movies on blu. Since this has been held off until now, there is a chance that a new master was done for the blu release. Surely it didn't take that long to put together the dts-hd ma audio track.

Wow, that's a bummer. This is one of my favorite current shows. Would love to have it on Blu-ray. Tell them to get working on it, Penton!

Unless my memory is completely faulty, there are a number of other titles released on Blu more recently which were not re-mastered.

I certainly hope they are doing something more generous with it, but we should remain cognizant that it's not exactly a premier top-earning title. In most cases, the general laws of ROI would dictate only a modest investment be made.

Of course, you never know when you might happen to run into the EVP of Catalog Releasing's *absolute most favoritest movie ever*.

I'm really not trying to be obtuse but...........

Is your statement that there will be Trek director's cuts an
educated guess or knowledge from some source?

Or is the point that you have it from a source and can't admit to it and therefore it has to fall under the category of educated guess by default.

In which case you couldn't tell me anyway.

In any event; I'm buying the 'Trilogy' now and gambling on a director's set within 3 years.

Oh yeah, if you could tell your friends at Paramount about including deleted scenes in the future---I think a lot of fans would appreciate it.

understood, but I believe Universal mentioned that they were going back and remastering alot of the hd-dvd titles that they put out because they were not up to par for blu.
